Once
upon a time, Nang *Plu, *Mak and *Poon lived in the same village.
Mak and Poon were twins; Mak was the older, and Poon was the younger.
Both of them fell in love with Nang Plu.
When Poon knew that Mak also loved the same woman, he decided to leave
them. Mak had a chance to marry Nang
Plu, and they lived together happily.
One day, Mak
had to leave home to work outside the village, so he entrusted Nang Plu to his
twin brother, Poon. Poon had to move
into Nang Plu’s house.
People in the
village saw Poon and Nang Plu living in the same house for many years, so they
talked something bad about them. When
Mak came back, he saw both of them were very close.
He was very angry, and he left them immediately.
Nang Plu and Poon had been
looking for Mak. Nang Plu found Mak
unconscious, and he was dying. Nang
Plu cried and told Mak to trust her, but Mak didn’t.
Before Mak died, he vowed never to meet the woman named Plu again.
When Nang Plu heard this, she also vowed to follow Mak forever.
Then she held her breath and died.
When Poon
arrived home, he found them dead. He
was ashamed because he thought he was the cause of Mak and Plu’s death.
He vowed to look after them forever.
Since then
whenever people eat Mak, they have to eat Plu and Poon together.
