UPDATE FROM NIKKI:
I just finished recording my Star Search demo and am sending in my media packet to them. I will be sure to keep everyone updated on my progress and let you all know if they contact me when they receive my stuff. I also recently entered the Be A Radio Star competition and I also have decided that I will be participating in Music in the Rockies,a Christian music competition/workshop/seminar later this year in August where I will have the chance to perform for labels, producers, record executives, etc. So, I have basically been busy and occupied with a lot of competitions and there are still a couple more I plan on entering such as the Pantene ProVoice competition !!! Like, I said I'll keep everyone updated with the results of all these competitions and if I get any call backs, etc.
Other than that, I will be performing locally at coffee shops, restaurants, small clubs, theatres, etc. I also have a couple major showcases planned for the fall of this year. One is with the music school I am studying voice at and the other one I will be headlining. I am very excited! I'm also still writing and recording and putting the finishing touches on my original and cover demos. I also started my first semester of college where I am studying to be a music major and things are going very well with all that. That's all the news for now!
Take Care, Nikki

UPDATE FROM NIKKI:
Well, I had a voice lesson a couple weeks ago and my teacher started
it out with some AWESOME news! There is a competition in Los Angeles
every year and it's called "World Championships". It's a huge
vocal/dance/drama competition. I guess you go and sing and depending
on how many points you get determines the color medal you get (Gold,
silver, bronze), but you don't compete against other singers, you
just compete for points. Then at the end of the week whoever has the
highest points gets to go on t.v. and at that point compete against
other people. It's airs on PAX t.v. If I end up competing I will
keep you all updated and let you know how far I get. Some of the
judges include Garth Brooks, Reba McEntyre, etc. It's a great
opportunity because there are tons of music biz big-wigs there and
it gives you tons of exposure. Anyway, my teacher and our school
chooses a few students each year to represent the school and I am
one of the people he chose!! I was in shock! I still can't believe
it! Out of all the people he teaches I am one of the people he
picks?! Insane, but awesome! So, his partner is suppose to get in
touch with me and give me more info. The only downside is that it
will cost me a ton of money. On the flip side there is another
competition here in Colorado called, Praise in the Rockies it's a
Christian music competition with workshops, etc. Anyway, there are
big name Christian artists there as well as record producers, talent
scouts etc. Anyway, it might be a little cheaper to participate in
and it's a smaller arena so I have a higher chance of being
successful and getting noticed! I am so excited! For those of you
that know Christian artists, Rachael Lampa and Stacie Orrico got
their starts there and they also took voice lessons from my teacher!
WOW! I am soooooo excited! I know I keep saying that, but I mean
it!!! WOOO!!!! I really would like to do both competitions, but I
will probably only be able to afford one. I guess we will just see.
I just still can't get over that he picked me!! I can't believe I am
one of his better students. It amazes me and humbles me. I am so
happy he sees potential in me. He told me I am "Gifted and ready for
this." YAY!! Finally, someone that thinks I'm ready to go sing and
make a name for myself. I am floored and blown away! I feel very
lucky and special and fortunate. I pray I never take any of this
forgranted and if I do that someone smacks me.
I am also recording 2 new demos. One with cover songs and I am re-
recording my demo with original music. Why you ask? I finally got
better recording equipment!! YAY!! *Happy Dance* Yes, so now I will
have 2 high quality demos. I couldn't be more excited! I'll let you
know when they are completed and let anyone that is interested have
a listen!
Well, that's all the news for now!
Take care!!

UPDATED:Aug 7, 2003
First off, American Idol auditions are off for this season. :-( The
L.A. audition is August 3rd which just so happens to be right in the
middle of my vacation in San Francisco..... there is no way my family
is going to interupt our vacation to drive 9 hours to camp out on the
streets, soo yeah. The L.A. audition is a no-go.........I thought New
York may work, but my mom can't get off anymore time from work so it
is off too.....and I can't go by myself. I thought if my mom signed a
release form and the contract ahead of time I could go by myself, but
it turns out that if you are under the age of 18 your parent or legal
guardian must be present at the audition, which totally sucks.......I
am less than 2 months away from being 18 when the audition in New
York takes place....Oh, well. I guess some things just aren't meant
to be. On top of all this, Marie can't get time off from work because
she hasn't been there 90 days. I think it might be a sign to not go
since nothing is working out. Anywho, Marie and I have decided we
will give it a shot next season. So watch for us on AMERICAN IDOL
4!!!!!! :-)
Well, besides the news about American Idol, I leave in a few days for
San Francisco. I am incredibly excited. It will be wonderful to get
away for a vacation and relax. I am so excited to get to go be by the
ocean! It is my favorite place in the whole world and we are going to
take one whole day to drive down to Santa Cruz and spend it at the
beach!!! I could not be more excited! If I could I would live by the
ocean! It makes me so happy. So, anyway, I am so excited to say the
least. I also get to go to Hard Rock Cafe in San Francisco! I love
Hard Rock Cafes! They are some of my favorite restaurants in the
whole world! I collect stuff from every single one I go to so it will
be cool to add to my collection. :-) I wonder if they have one in
Santa Cruz too. I will have to look into that. Maybe we can stop at
that one too.....hmm....I think I will go research that. Besides all
that, I was born in the San Francisco area so I will get to see the
house I grew up in, the hospital I was born at, where I used to be a
model, etc. It will be such a blast. We also will be near Pier 39 and
Fisherman's Warf which means plenty of fun shopping!!!!! :-) Man,
what else am I going to see? Winchester Mystery House, Golden Gate
Bridge, Golden Gate Park, China Town, Alcatrez, and those are just a
few things I can think of off the top of my head. I know we are going
to see even more! :-) Man, what fun! It will be a great time.
Anyway, when I get back from San Francisco real life will kick back
into full swing at a rapid pace....school will be starting in a few
weeks so I will have to make sure I am all registered for classes,
and have financial plans in place so I can pay for my classes. YIKES!
I am also going to be recording a demo in the near future. It will be
mostly cover songs with maybe one or two original songs......Marie
and I are going to start co-writting a song that will hopefully be
used on my demo...anyway, this will be the real deal. There is a
friend of the family that has a home studio and he is going to record
me...it will be so awesome! I will finally have a real, quality demo
to send places, so hopefully things will start taking off with my
career in the near future. I could not be more excited about
recording this demo! Anyway, I'm sure you are all wondering, "What
about the other demo you were going to record, Nikki? You know, the
one you were recording at home with 5 of your original songs?" The
answer is, I am still recording it. Copies will still be free and
available to you once it's finished...the process of recording it is
taking longer than I expected though and there may only be 3 songs on
it instead of 5, but I am still recording it without a doubt. I am
very excited about that demo is well. Now, you may be wondering, why
am I recording two different demos? Why don't I just record one? The
answer is, I don't feel that my original songs are polished enough to
be put on a professional demo. I think they need to be perfected and
polished before I would go into a studio and record them. That may
happen someday, but right now they are too rough. I am recording
cover songs for 2 reasons.
A: alot of places want to hear cover songs and they don't accept
original songs and work, believe it or not!
B: It's alot easier for me because I can get a demo recorded within
the next couple of months, instead of waiting a long time to perfect
original songs, plus having to go in search of a band. With cover
songs I pop in an instrumental cd, sing, and BOOM, instant demo!! :-)
LOL!
Ok, so why am I putting one or two original songs on there with the
cover songs if I just said that they weren't polished enough?
The answer to that is, some places will only accept ORIGINAL songs!!
LOL! I know! People can be so difficult! Why can't they just make up
their minds?! LOL! So anyway, I am going to pick the best original
songs I have and put them on my demo. That way people can hear me do
everything! Original, cover, polished, un-polished, acoustic, full
band, you name it. It will be a great mix. So, that is the plan. As
soon as I get back from San Francisco plans for my demo will begin,
hopefully I will get into the studio by the end of August, and Marie
and I will be writting and composing like mad to make the perfect
original song(s) for my demo.
Well, that is all the news for now...I gotta get going. I have so
much to do! Talk to ya'll soon!
God Bless,
Nikki
