Nikki shot to fame in 2004 after making the Top 12 of Malaysian Idol Season 1. Despite her enormous talent, she was surprisingly voted off halfway through the competition. Intrigued by her amazing vocals and ability to hit the high notes, she was quickly signed up to be the first recording artiste of Malaysian uberdiva Ning Baizura's recording label Artistes United Records (AUR).
In November 2005, Nikki released her debut album Maharani which was well received by music lovers. It was even touted as the best album ever produced by a local reality star. The album spawned hits like Pinta, Caramu, Cinta Baru and the latest, Imaginasi. Caramu went on to become the biggest hit of 2006 and was equally successful in Singapore and Brunei.
The success of her album and singles however went unnoticed when she was snubbed at the 13th Anugerah Industri Muzik, Malaysia's premier music awards. That did not deter her at all. She persevered and eventually was honoured as the Best New Female Artiste at the regional awards show, Anugerah Planet Muzik 2006 and won the Choice Vocal Duo/Group (with Zahid who was featured on Caramu) at the Malaysia's most prestigious radio awards show, Anugerah Era 2006.
Currently, Nikki is working on her sophomore album. Her star is shining very bright and with a talent beyond compare, she is definitely here to stay. All hail to the Maharani of Malay Pop!
