What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a skin disorder that can cause scaling and swelling.

In a person that has normal skin turnover happens about once a month. In a person with Psoriasis turnover can happen in just days, the cells rise too fast and pile up on the surface.

What causes Psoriasis?

No one knows exactly what causes psoriasis. Researchers are starting to suspect that Psoriasis is linked to the immune system. Tcells, which usually help the body to fight infection and/or disease, are for some reason more active in people with Psoriasis. The Tcells launch into action for no reason becoming so active they set off other immune responses causing swelling and faster turnover.

Researchers also believe that Psoriasis is genetic. They are currently trying to identify the genes that cause Psoriasis, this may not be very successful as there maybe more than one gene causing Psoriasis. Researchers also believe that even if you have the Psoriasis genes they need to be triggered.
