"South Carolina

In South Carolina it is only a short drive from the mountains to the coast and between the two is a wide diversity of cities, activities, sports, farms, parks and most of all Horse Trails!.

A Well Kept Secret in Sand Hills State Forest:

H. Cooper Black, Jr. Memorial Field Trail and Recreation Area -  This field trail area is now open to horseback riding and camping.  The trails are wide, clean, and very nicely maintained.  There are miles of trails and roads with wonderful scenery.  The terrain is very similar to that of the Sugar Loaf Mountain area of the forest, but the tree growth is larger and there is much more shade.    There are three lakes and several man made watering holes along the trails.  We rode in June and it was nice riding in the early morning and late afternoons, but we picked a weekend with a full moon and rode at night.   The forestry roads a great for this and you can easily see your way around due to the white sand and moon light.  For those you who enjoy driving, this would be a great place to hook up a team and take a wagon ride.

Camping Facilities are among the best around.  Large sites with power and water located close to each site.   The shower house and restrooms are new and very clean.  There is a 24 stall barn.  Campsites are $10.00 per night and stalls are $5.00.  Reservations and advance payment is required. There are also primitive sites with hitching post at no charge. Permits are required and there are rules governing use during field trails, but this is a ride you need to add to your list!!
