Mt. Fuji is the tallest mountain in Japan. At an almost perfect cone, it is 3,776 meters (12,395 ft).It is roughly about 2 hours from Tokyo and about 12 hours from us here in Sasebo. Fuji-san is an innactive volcano that attracts thousands of climbers a year, about 30 percent like me, are tourists. As a group it took us 8 hours to climb and 4 hours to descend. It was a great day to climb, as there were no clouds at the top to bring the rain.

1) Me posing at the beginning of our hike 2) A view of the top from our beginning

3)Some info carved into a stone 4) Making our way through some steep rocks

5) Getting our hiking sticks branded at the different stations, a good way for the residents of the mountain to make money 6) The clouds seemed to be following us up the mountain

7) One of the fourteen brands I got on my hiking stick. A really nice souvenir 8)The view from the mountain and the mountains that are seen from this particualr spot (on a clear day).

9) A shrine located on one of the stations 10)A view of the top from the second to last station

11) The last leg of the hike. The torii gate marked the end 12) A look back at the final torii gate

13) Me at the summit next to the crater 14) The opening(crater) of the volcano, 2000 ft in diameter

15) Looking down from the top 16) Coming down was harder than going up because the dirt and rock was loose and it was almost like skiing.

17) The "Z" pattern of the descending trail 18) The sun falling on the other side of the mountain

19) The falling sun and a cloud make this picture of a hiker descending pretty neat, it looked alot more mysterious in person 20) The way they got supplies up and hurt people down
