A prophecy. A statement foretelling of things to come. As I sleepily sit
in the shade of an oak tree in the park, watching my family giggling and
playing like overgrown children, I smile, musing contentedly over the
results of my prophecy, once dismissed as the over-active imagination of a
starry-eyed teenager, now recognised as a true vision of the future.

They were quiet at first, subtle, hiding the change from everyone... even
me. If she hoped I wouldn't notice, wouldn't see before she worked up the
courage to tell me, she was wrong.
You'd think they'd have learned by now.
The change was tangible, though at first I truly didn't notice, too caught
up in the eventful everyday life of the High School Teenager to pay much
attention to the situation of those around me. Truth be told, I had
expected a little more time to pass, for it to take a while longer for
Janet, stubborn as she is, to realise her feelings, and finally discover
his.
But she changed, slowly. Where there had once been pain and loneliness in
her eyes - on those long, dark evenings when the shadows drew in and the
world was silent - hope now resided there, and the bright sparkle of
possibility shone in their hazel depths. The forced cheerfulness, evoked
for my benefit, disappeared from her voice, genuine optimism taking its
place. When they came over, all four of them, she would continue to focus
her attention on him, and he would stay close to her, only marginally
different from the way they usually acted. They would watch each other, as
they had always done... but now, when their eyes met, neither would glance
away furtively. This time, he would hold her gaze and they would share a
quick, secretive smile before looking away. When they left, she'd no
longer sigh despondently, but smile to herself while she absentmindedly
cleared up the mess that was invariably left behind. She became somehow
younger, more light-hearted. The worries and cares of previous years faded
from her face, leaving her as fresh and beautiful as any woman I'd ever
met. She began to go out more, sometimes with me and sometimes without;
though she pretended they were 'social occasions', and not the dates I
deduced them to be. When I grinned knowingly at her, she would chide me
affectionately, laughing that I was still a hopeless romantic; yet she
would still run for the phone when it rang, in competition with my
headlong dash to reach it first.
Daniel's visits became more frequent, mostly unaccompanied. When I queried
him, he merely replied, rather nervously, that he and my mother were
getting to know each other a little better. I stated that his proneness to
injury must surely allow him a lot of time to speak to my mother, as his
doctor. He answered that he and Janet were working on developing a
friendship outside of the SGC. When I told him I thought he and Janet were
already friends, Daniel replied they were working on becoming closer
friends. How close? I demanded, and was just in time to observe him
getting entirely flustered before I was shooed by Janet, and told to stop
harassing him.
They couldn't hide it forever though, and Janet seemed to realise that I
had worked her secret out for myself long before she decided to tell me.
She sat me down one night, her face serious, and before she had time to
speak I informed her that I knew everything, that she didn't have to
worry, and that I was happy for her. It was the truth. I was ecstatic. If
anyone I know deserves some joy, some fulfillment, some *love* in their
life, then it's her. I already loved Daniel; he was part of my family a
long time ago, so it was barely any adjustment to see him as a potential
father, rather than an odd uncle.

Cassandra prophesised many events, and though she was persistently
ignored, her predictions always came true.
So here I sit, tired out after a long day spent with Sam, Jack, Teal'c,
Daniel and my mother, watching them argue over who's cheating at whatever
competition they've now moved on to, and I smile. The future is suddenly
laid out before me once again, and it holds an unpredictability that even
my prophet's eyes cannot see; but for the time being, I am content to wait
for the future, and live with my family in the present.
