The
Raft of Medusa, as this one is called, is my version
of the original by Gericault. He had taken 1 and a half years
to complete his 14 feet version
of the painting. I took 14 days to complete my 8 feet version of the
same picture. I really
enjoyed painting the raft of medusa, because of its excessive emotions
of all the 18 figures in this painting. Being a true story, only 5
out of the 3000 aboard the French war ship survived the
tragedy off the coast of Africa, shipwrecked after
a storm. The man on top in waving to a ship, which
is shown as a tiny spot in the horizon. It adds to the spirit of the
painting, as it is hard for both the viewers and the shipwrecked,
to see.
