Express-News - San Antonio
A man upset that his girlfriend was roughed up in a mosh pit shot a man who had pushed her at a punk rock show near downtown early Saturday January 7th, police said.
The shooting happened after the show about 1:30 a.m. outside the Rock Bottom Tattoo Bar at Avenue B and East Jones Avenue.
According to a police report, a man drove up outside the club to say something to the victim about pushing the girlfriend in the pit. Witnesses told police the victim apologized to the woman for the incident then walked away, but her boyfriend continued to argue about the incident.
I already apologized to her, the victim told the man, according to the police report.
What more do you want?
As the car was driving off, the man fired out of a car window, striking the other man, who collapsed in the street, police said.
He was rushed to Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition, officials said. Police were still searching Saturday for the shooter, whose identity was unknown.
The Victim is said to be making a recovery.

STOOGE DIES!
Ron Asheton, who was found dead on 6 January, 2009, was the musician whose scuzzy guitar, along with Iggy Pop's furious vocals, heralded the start of punk rock with The Stooges' self-titled debut album in 1969.

The nihilistic garage rock band were a commercial failure but their kinetic live performances germinated the punk movement that would grow steadily in New York and then London over the next decade.
It eventually resulted in world domination by the likes of
The Clash and Sex Pistols, the latter covering The Stooges' No Fun at the start of their career.
Asheton co-wrote the songs with wiry frontman
Iggy Pop and played the sole guitar on The Stooges and 1970 follow-up Fun House, before switching to bass for the group's final album, Raw Power.
However, by this time he had been pushed out of song-writing duties by new guitarist James Williamson and was sacked shortly before the group disbanded in 1974.
In 1975 Asheton founded a band called
The New Order with two former Stooges and the MC5's drummer. They released one album on a low budget independent label. In late 1976 he joined experimental rock band Destroy All Monsters.
In the 1980s he relocated to Australia to form the band
New Race, who played a mixture of original garage rock and music from their former bands.
He acted in a handful of films in the early 1990s and in 2003 - following on from
Iggy Pop's solo success and an increased interest in The Stooges' work since the punk explosion - he reunited with his former band as Iggy Pop & The Stooges for live shows and a new album in 2007.
Ronald Frank Asheton, who was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on 17 July, 1948, died at the age of 60 in his home in the same city. After hearing about Asheton's death,
Sex Pistol Steve Jones said The Stooges were his "blueprint for how to play guitar.

PUNK ROCK MOVIE

RAW, uncomproising, intimidating, life-changing. These are just some of the words that describe the punk movement at its peak, a movement that still reverberates heavily in musical, social and philosophical contexts today. Now Don Letts the original punk DJ, brings his intimate film recordings of the punk movement at its highest powers to DVD. Which will be released by Freemantle Home Entertainment on
9 June 2008. As a bonus producer Peter Clifton interviews Johnny Rotten during his Public Image days in 1983 which is rather amusing.

LAST ROCKER DIES!

It is with great regret that we have to announce the death of the original VICE SQUAD guitarist and songwriter DAVE BATEMAN.
News came through in the early hours of 12th December that Dave had died in an accident in Spain.
We were reluctant to make an announcement before receiving confirmation for fear of upsetting his family and friends unnecessarily.
However, this afternoon I spoke with original VICE SQUAD drummer SHANE BALDWIN who told me that sadly the news was correct.
Dave fell and sustained a head injury whilst celebrating his 46th birthday on 10th December. He was rushed to hospital but died the next day.
I doubt that Vice Squad would ever have existed without Dave as we wrote all the best known early songs together and he was an excellent organiser of rehearsals in garages and church halls and blagged us our first ever gigs
I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to his family and friends, and in particular to his Mum.

BIPS NEED DRUMMER!
The Bips is looking for a drummer. But hey, not just any drummer will do. We're looking for a Bips drummer! Someone special. Someone who is dedicated to add spice to our way of playing punk. Someone who digs 70's style punkrock as much as we do. Someone who knows about life and passion and who plays like his ass is on fire. Someone creative, who doesn't take shit from anyone. Who wants to play, be a road dog, ready to get his or her balls out for some serious kicking of the punk pedal anytime, both in Holland as well as abroad. Someone who takes this shit serious enough to rehearse on a weekly basis to raise enough fuel to burn whatever stage and leave others to swipe the ashes.
In short: Someone who IS rock'nroll.
If this description suits you and fits you like a glove, contact us at
[email protected]
You should be available starting today, with no restrictions as to time or other bands. Needless to say you've got your own drumkit. We supply our Bips Rehearsal Base and want to catch up with you there on saturdays and/or sunday afternoons.

RADIO STARS REFORM!
Canoe group claim to have no recollection of disbanding -
British band
Radio Stars who disappeared in a mysterious boating incident in 1979 and who were declared officially dead by the Performing Rights Society, turned themselves over to the proprietor of London's Blow Up club at the weekend. They claimed to have no recollection of having broken up over thirty years ago, and to be 'completely in the dark' about their impending London gig on March 1st and also about the  release of a new CD featuring live performances from the late seventies.
Having failed to recall any good reason not to reform for one night, they perform at the Blow Up Metro in London on March 1st. The live line-up will be bassist/writer Martin Gordon, vocalist Andy Ellison and guitarist Ian Macleod. Following the recent example of Led Zeppelin, they have chosen a drummer with the same name as their original tub-thumper,  namely Steve Budney. Martin Gordon performs a selection from his Mammal Trilogy with his own band to kick the proceedings off and reappears with Radio Stars appear shortly afterwards. Yellow waterproof clothing is recommended.

CRAMPS LEGEND RIP!
Cramps frontman Lux Interior died Wednesday 4th February at a Glendale, Calif., hospital as the result of a pre-existing heart condition, the band's publicist confirmed to Billboard. He was 52.
The Cramps formed in 1976 and were part of the now legendary downtown New York punk scene. Their lineup shifted over the years but always included Lux and his wife, Poison Ivy. The band's rockabilly-infused punk has been credited as an influence by bands including the White Stripes and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
Interior, whose real name was Erick Lee Purkhiser, was born October 21, 1946, in Ohio. He met Ivy in 1972 and started the band shortly thereafter.
The Cramps released 14 albums over the course of their career, their latest being 2004's "How To Make a Monster." Their best-selling album, 1984's "Bad Music for Bad People" has sold 95,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Its suprising what a well dressed multi-imillion pound Chelsea footballer wears these days ain't it? First we had Beckham sporting a Crass shirt now we got Mr Frank Lampard in a Cowboys top more commonly worn by such punk affictionados as Sid Vicious and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, who just so happens to be a renowned Chelsea fan!
What next, Wayne Rooney in a Destroy Top or Siouxsie Sioux in a Wolves!?

BLITZED IN TEXAS!
More sad news Nige Miller guitarist from early 80's street punk pioneers Blitz was tragically hit by a car and killed whilst trying to cross a highway outside Austin, Texas USA on Friday February 2nd 2007 following a show at Elmos venus. Daichi Dog attacked!!
NAZI DOGS SHOWS CANCELLED
We have pretty bad news for you this time. NAZI DOGS drummer Daichi Dog got attacked by some fucked up street rat on Thursday 25th January after a punk show inside the AZ in Aachen City. The pisser hit him in his face with a bottle. Daichi got injured pretty badly, hes suffering from a broken nose, a badly split up upper lip, loose teeth and a fucked up arm due to broken glass.
Oh yeah, his eyes got hurt as well, but the doctors did a cool job all in all & were hoping a lot that hes gonna recover within the next couple of weeks...
So, sadly but true, NAZI DOGS have to cancel the next shows this weekend in Erfurt (AJZ Club) and Berlin (Clash Bar).
Most likely the following shows on February 18th and 19th in Hamburg and Flensbug will have to be cancelled as well, but well keep you updated on this.
As a matter of fact, we took care of the fucker later on after the shit happened. The guy got some face treatment outside the Hauptquartier Bar in Aachen City...but that actually doesnt make things easier for us...
NAZI DOGS hope youre gonna have a great weekend nevertheless. Keep your fingers crossed that Daichis gonna recover pretty soon, so that well be able to keep on playing those outragious shows youre lovin us for...!!!
