Cleaners

I found this a while back. I thought I would share it with all of you. This "recipe" for stamp cleaner actually cleans even Staz-On ink, if you get it right after stamping all images. It even cleaned some of my stained stamps.

Take 1/4 cup of Simple Green (found in the automotive section at Wal-Mart for cheap-it is an all purpose cleaner) and add 3/4 cup water. Put in a spray bottle and spritz your stamp scrubber with it. When finished stamping image, scrub it on your wet side and then on the dry side of the scrubber to clean.

If you don't have a stamp scrubber, but would like to have one here is the tip for you. Go to the paint department of Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and ask for "paint edgers". They look like small pads and have little loops on them. Put them in cleaned styrofoam meat trays and mark one wet and one dry. These, along with the stamp cleaner, will keep your stamps cleaned and conditioned.

If you are using your waterbrush and over time it starts clogging or not working like new (I haven't tried taking it apart and deep cleaning it yet) I take my spritzer bottle and spray a few sprays into the lid of the spritzer bottle and use that as my water cup. I'm so clutzy that I don't dare keep a full cup of water on my work table. If I accidentally spill the tiny lid it only has a bit of water and a tiny mess.

I bought a set of old alphabet stamps at a yard sale on which the rubber was very hard and stiff. I put paper towels in a flat plastic container and poured in glycerin, then placed the stamps in the container with the rubber down and closed the lid. I put them away and forgot about them for weeks, but when I remembered and got them out the rubber was like brand new. I'm not sure how important the length of time was, but glycerin is cheap compared to the cost of rubber stamps, and if you have a stamp that's ruined anyway, it's worth a try.
