“A day in the life”
A car backfires and he hits the ground
Eyes glazed as he looks around
Sweat rolls from his contorted face
As he flashes back to another place
He still has a problem with rushing crowds
Gets a little edgy when the music’s loud
Patience is a virtue he can’t afford
Lives on the fast track gotta stay on board
Couldn't hold a job, always on the move
Like a needle on a record that keeps jumping the groove
Has a few friends that he recalls
Draws close to them as he peruses the Wall
Got a few stained medals tucked away in a drawer
Memories from the Vietnam War
Some were good, some were bad
For the most part they were all he had
Strums his guitar singing sixties tunes
Beside him is a picture of him in dress blues
Wrinkled up dollar in his old guitar case
As he transports those around him to a distant place
Folds up shop at the end of day
Looks for a safe haven to stay
Bottle of beer, Big Mac and fry’s
Hummin’
Bye,
bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey 'n' rye
Singin this will be the day that I die.
This will be the day that I die.
A day in the life of a Vietnam vet
A man whom his country has chosen to forget
A Brother of circumstance, some may not agree
A Brother nonetheless and still flying free….
