Embers
Sitting beneath the starlight Eyes fixed upon the flame glowing embers, crackling sounds takes me back to yesterday
A time that was so innocent Just kids, as some would say not living in the past just dwelling upon today
Many memories illuminate the mind The youth of the 60's has slipped away And the time of play and innocence Was cut in half by the reapers blade
The rocks stacked round the fire pit turn to mountains against red sky smoke billows from the pit as spirits rising toward the sky
Disappearing into blackness Embers like tracers, fill the sky they glow then burn out quickly falling helplessly they flicker then die
My eyes dart away from the fire as if released from a sorcerers trance Look across the glow to my loving wife and my heart begins to dance
Yesterday is just a memory but today is worth living for Life remains, love sustains shutting the door of a distant war
