THE NES REVIEW Page

Super Mario Bros. Comes with NES in 1985 along with Dunt Hunt.

Interesting fact - This game appeared in 1 Super Nintendo Game, Super Mario All Stars,  2 gameboy games, Super Mario Deluxe and Super Mario Advance 2. One Gamecube game, Animal Crossing.

Interesting Fact #2 Nintendo announced a Nintendo Classic Collection series for Gamecube. SMB and SM64 included. New feature in game was ported From SMB Deluxe, which is a Ghost option.

Interesting Fact #3 Nintendo Gamecube comes complete with a Gameboy Player able to read any Gameboy game including Super Mario Deluxe. First time since Super Mario Bros. could be played on Television since NES.

Interesting Fact #4 - Nintendo trademarked the Mario-style platform since NES so only underground developers could bring Mario to the PC. Nintendo also trademarked Super Mario 64 controls so no one could copy it exactly. Only Banjo and Kazooie (1998) used Mario 64's acclaimed control style developed by Nintendo and Rareware. Rareware left Nintendo to develop for Xbox in 2002.

Note: I couldn't review Dunt Hunt because I don't own the NES lazer pointing toy guns.  Ah, Super Mario Bros, the first videogame Ive ever played, ever! No, it wasnt in 1985 or 1986 or 1987. It was like 1994 over at my cousins house one day. Ah, I remember it, Mario in his purest form jumping, we played for hours and hours. Ehnot really hours. Okay, unlike Super Mario 64, you start with 4 lives. You play through 8 stages and you die. I cant get 99 lives. Just play until I die or complete the stage.

What can I say, Mario is dressed in red, and he's a Italian plumber.  Luigi looks like a tall Mario dressed in green. You won't notice in the original. I guess everyone knows this now! It's like Duh, right? This is the only game, though, that Mario and Luigi are the same size.  And unlike all other games, Player 2 doesn't play at the same time.

My favorite level is probably the first level. I can complete it with my eyes closed and I dont play it everyday. More like once a week since I got the game in December. Its pretty much the way I remember it. Only 32 colors on screen. Ive been playing this game on PC for years. Must have been since 1998.

In this 2D world, you jump, you shoot fireballs, and such. No 3D dimension games. Before 3D was really invented. Sure there were some games on the Intellivision that may of kinda looked 3D, but this is pass the Intellivision. It had good graphics when it came out and it still had good graphics when the NES was dead.

The game has 32 levels all together (8 x 4 = 32) The game even has 2 player so you can battle, old school style with your friend. So far this is my favorite game for the NES. I give this game a very perfect 10/10. Just because Mario rocks!

If you like this game, you might also like

Super Mario Bros 2 in 1988.

Interesting fact - This game appeared in Super NES title Super Mario All Stars, and Gameboy Advance in Super Mario Advance.

Super Mario Bros. is my least favorite of the Super Mario Trilogy. It's not exactly what I saw in SMB but it has some high points. For one its more challeging. There are bosses in every level of the game not like the orginal. The graphics are upgraded, but they look somewhat wierd. This is the first time we see Told, Princess Toldstool (now Peach), the weird jumping guys, invisible doors, I don't have the orginal box or manel. So far it's still above average. I can get to the 4th level if I try. There are no pimps that will transport you to later stages unless there are? Luigi is back this time with the same basic block, jump, kick moves as his smaller brother.
