Playing consoles in the “Golden Age of Videogames”

October 28, 2001

I bought Grandia 2 about a month ago which looks like my last new game I'll be able to get for the console. Even with my dreamcast being over 2 years old already. It has little signs of wear. Really the only lock-ups are Resident Evil titles and Sonic Adventure. Those are the only ones I've had trouble. But I will be playing the Gamecube when I get it in a month. But I also have gotten a new Dreamcast to back my current one up. I lost some of my interest in videogames but not games in general. On diablo 2, I played my Barbarian to lvl 60 and my sorceress to lvl 48. This game is the one I play the most now-a-days.

Another title I got was Superman from Neversoft, makers of Tony Hawk Pro Skater. I haven't played this one as much. But it also a very solid game I picked up for a mere 30 dollars.

Well since I got the Gamecube two weeks ago, the Dreamcast has been negected. Poor Dreamcast. Mement of pause. --- Dreamcast hasn't been negected as much as Nintendo 64. On Dreamcast I went back to playing Speed Devils, since it was a good enough game. The DC and Gamecube I see have some simulatarity. In other words 3D is always be 3D what ever you look at it. It sort of takes the meaning out of true 3D because we know that Dreamcast games, SEGA made where better then what they put on Gamecube. It so happens I bought their only exclusive title. I look now look at my *outdated* collection of 20 Dreamcast games and 16 Nintendo 64 games which I started owning in 1997. Its a good waste of games, even though I keep alternating them. But I play Gamecube much, much more now.

I was thinking though, I go back to Zelda 64 and try beating the whole game in 2 days. Except I got back into Perfect Dark for Nintendo 64, the game is unquiet and is still fun. But I weither play Diablo II or rack up points on Wave Race Blue Storm then beating it. Though its the best multiplayer game I known. When my friends come over, we always dual it out on N64.

My Sega Saturn is now package away. For its the only still operative Saturn probably in St. Croix Country. I want it to be a gem in 20 years. I own many titles for it. My favorite game is Dayota USA, except I like playing NiGHTS and Sonic 3D Blast. Nice music but its a mind twister. I have some fighters too that I never really played, but I got all of these for a steal at Funcoland. I got 3 games for $15 and the most was only $25. The console is in near mint condition, and i plan to keep it that way. Then I can show my grandchildren, gramps' Sega Saturn. And then he got really mad because one of this grandsons got careless and bashed the console for what its worth because he said that the graphics were so terrible that he couldn't see where he was going. And of course I got dizzy and tried to find someone that could repair the ancient hardware.

Merry Christmas to you all, we this got past the first year of the millennium. I got grounded from the PC this week but I decided to sneak on it anyway to tell you that I took the whole weekend to play Zelda 64. I bought this game at Funcoland about 4 months ago but never got a chance to play it. It is very good. One thing that really surprised me with Nintendo, is how they could make Zelda like this in maybe 2 years time. It has a lot of fun stuff in it so fun that I had to write a Strategy guide for it. Go to my Strategy section at my main page. I got past the Great Deki Tree. And am stuck somewhere in the golem area, where I need to save there home to get a ruby that I'll need for something. I have no clue whats its for, maybe a key. I thought of adding a the locations of the tunes to my map. Zelda 64 pretty much explains itself, if you can understand directions, I would believe that this game would be no trouble at all.

I invited a friend from school, Chuck. We played Goldeneye on the N64. We had the man with the goldengun tournments. He got me in one round with that blasted weapon. I didn't know that both players could have the goldengun. There was a time where none died in 10 minutes. That was in the Bunker level. We did play Perfect Dark. But in his opinion he was more interested with Goldeneye. He said it was as fun as h*ll. It was cool. But we did play Monkey Ball, and Super Smash Bros on Gamecube after. I couldn't make people think I was rich (*cough) for what I wore to school. I like friece and they tend to be on the expensive side. I still haven't got passed that Forest Temple spot in Zelda 64. The ceiling shadow keeps grabbing me. He kicks my ass. I will NEVER let go of that game, it's still pretty awesome game.I am waiting paciently for Zelda Gamecube to be released in August of this year, only 9 months left, 'done nabbit'.

Last Dreamcast Game released by Sega

And you thought the dreamcast was dead. Well offically it wasn't dead until today since Sega put their last title on shelves. The game is called NHL 2K2. You don't see dreamcast in Walmart or Best Buy anymore. You can only find games stocked at your local Funcoland, Toys R Us or Target. And Target only has about 10 games. I hear that at Toys R US and Target you can't get new DCs anymore. That is if you would want one. Someone who might want to shoot zombies in high resolution may want to pick up a dreamcast. But Gamecubes getting that same game at the end of the year.

I went over to Randy's house and took back some Dreamcast games. I did give him Resident Evil. I didn't take it back yet. If it was at my house. I would play it maybe about 15% of the time that I play games. I think that Gamecube would be 40% and Diablo 2 (PC) would be about 40% with Nintendo 64 the remaining 15%. I started Super Mario 64 about 2 weeks back. Then Stopped. I got 88 Stars total /w cheats.

Linux owns Dreamcast now.

One of the radical changes for the Sega Dreamcast is that Sega released the developing kits to the world. Platforms like Linux and OS2 where running GUI on Dreamcast because the buffer can except it. Plus its the only console that can handle the calculations it takes to run a GUI. Some independant programers got to run samples of tetris and doom on the dreamcast playable with it's controller. If all works. Linux maybe able to release a customized OS for Dreamcast complete with word processor, internet, and Doom as well as developers kit on-board and a compiler.

Today my mom found a used version of Legend of Zelda Majona's Mask . Made in 2000, its not that old. But a year later you couldn't find any Nintendo 64 games at all hardly and I'm guessing it ended up somewhat like the Dreamcast, people scramling to get hold of some last few games. I played it at home and its weird and confusing. You must complete the game in 7 hours it seems like. But thats impossible because the game is packed with 15 hours of gameplay.

Today I got my Dreamcast back from my friend. I have a extra Dreamcast that I keep in storage but this one I know works well so why not use it until it wears out. I spent most of my time playing Crazy Taxi. When I get home from school on Monday I might play a little of Sonic Adventure.
