the fictions @ UC Irvine
a lunchtime show for the kiddies! our first college show really. this was a great show as we had a HUGE stage to play on. some sound problems due to lack of a sound engineer present, but still a good fictions performance. maybe our best in a long time. the irvine folk seemed to like. we debuted the traitor and it was keen. good times in irvine.

the fictions @ the hub
this show was a ton of fun. our first performance with the candy canes, but hopefully not our last. the world came out to see us and we are thankful to all that did. another show with far*out, but this time ok assassin and controlling the famous joined the bill. ok assassin were rad and destroyed the stage, and controlling the famous were a very tight and together band and were entertaining to listen to. hope everyone enjoyed my glam glasses and boa.

the fictions @ smart city grinds
this shit was FUCKED up. ask us in person how it went. we've got stories man... "I WANNA FIGHT!"

friday, february 21st, 2003
the fictions @ canter's
our first hollywood gig! and our first cruddy show in a while. the bartender wouldn't let our under 21 fans stay in the room while we played and then the silly old lady from the restaurant came in and asked us to turn it down. TURN IT DOWN! leave it to hollywood to come ask a rock band to play at their restaurant/bar and then ask them to keep quiet. we cut early due to this and bickered on stage like old hags. not our greatest show, but we did play well. grievous angels played too and they were great. everyone should check them out.

melee and juan @ chain reaction
a quick segue from fictions shows. i played trumpet for melee at their e.p. release show at chain reaction. 2 songs only, but it was pretty neat. the band got real excited and the young girls screamed as young girls do. i hope i played well as i couldn't hear much at all. melee is loud. i was greeted backstage with applause because i had to come straight from work (didn't get the night of, grrr...). fun night overall. i love seeing melee happy.

the fictions @ the hub
this show was cool. our biggest crowd to date (i think). thanks to all who came out! all that time spent making that flyer paid off as the orange county folk came out in record numbers. we started off kinda cruddy, but progressively got better. the set ended in a flurry of bodies and instruments due to "body sex" rocking way too hard. good times were had by all. i even got cheers and claps from the crowd after my solo in "fall in leaves" (even though i thought they were clapping at something else that i didn't notice because i was busy playing the keyboard). we sold all 5 of our hand made shirts, and gave out most all the new buttons. our best show ever? maybe.

the fictions @ el taco nazo
we arrived with the news that taco nazo didn't have any bands booked for the night. after tons of waiting/arguing, we were finally allowed to play. we got our revenge on taco nazo this time around, and all 5 fictions were present. we did pretty well and even a member of far*out commented "you bastards smoked us!" even though far*out did great. our best show in a while.

the fictions @ java n buds
when we arrived the massive crowd of 2 people got us a bit scared, but we were happy when 2 other people arrived and the crowd doubled! in the end, the place got pretty packed and it was the first time all 5 fictions were in the same room at once in almost a year. we never practiced all together even before that show. it was an interesting show that resulted in josh chipping a tooth, and this show also marked the first public performance of "body sex". the p.a. was kinda crappy but otherwise i've been told that it was a good show overall. we played with girl punk band baggage and they were friendly.

the fictions @ el taco nazo
we played this show with west covina favorites far*out, and starveya, and a new band named push. and although only 3 fictions played, it ended up ok in the end. the crowd seemed to enjoy most of the fictions set, and our brand new fictions buttons! i switched off between bass/keyboards/guitar and we sorta pulled this show out of our assholes. i think it went well considering: we learned 2 new songs, hadn't practriced since june, and two band members didn't show. el taco nazo was pretty packed with folks. and an odd w.c.h.s. reunion somehow took place. hopefully we made some fans. "you and i were friends, and i always thought we'd make it to the end"

setlist:
blush
cameo stardust
out to sea
rock n' roll elegy
fall in leaves
in the middle
sideburns

(NOTE: there were two shows that took place during this time, but i'm not going into much detail with those. one was a private party that ended in a fun drunken oasis singalong, and the other was the coffee bazaar show. many people showed. we played well. i sighed.) (OTHER NOTE: the shows listed on this page are only the ones i myself have played with the fictions. there have been a couple of other shows which i wasn't able to make due to my being out of town or for some other reason which i can't quite remember)

the fictions @ mr t's bowl
this show was pretty nifty. it was josh mccool's birthday, and he and the rest of the fictions rocked out, along with the massive crowd of 5 people. i've been here before, but i finally got to see the backstage area where the now extinct bowling lanes are. how i wish the lanes were still open. i even learned some history of mr t's bowl. the mr t's crew were extremely nice, and welcome us back sometime soon. hopefully with some fans.

the fictions @ the cia (california institute of abnormal arts)
this has got to be the coolest venue in southern california! freak shows galore, cult films and old circus footage playing in the mini theatre, a pirate in the audience, a circus stage... wow, this place was extremely cool. if anyone has a chance, head on out to north hollywood and check this place out. even the bathroom is rad! this show went well for the fictions, reunited at last with josh mccool. we played well, though there weren't many people there. i think about 10 people? almost a record setter. the people were quite nice here, and it was a very unique yet pleasant atmosphere. thumbs up.

the fictions @ next door bar and grill
this show was in a familiar town for me, fullerton, ca. this place was about 2 blocks away from my school, cal state fullerton. although we played a lot better than we did the previous week, we were still without josh mccool due to disneyland duties. i had to miss out on a rilo kiley show to play this show, and boy was it worth it! i love playing in front of a crowd of 1 person! gosh, the rewards of being a rock star...

friday, february 8th, 2002
the fictions @ anteater pub and grill, uci
i think this was the worst show in fictions history, we were missing josh mccool, and of course, the fictions suffered. josh started his new job at disneyland and couldn't get the day off so, we were without mccool. the virgins opened up the show, while i enjoyed a game of pool with some pals. then the fictions "rocked". it wasn't that terribly disastrous, but the sound system wasn't too peachy, and we didn't rule without mccool.

the fictions @ smart city grinds
this was another show in ol' azusa. my family came out this time, and they actually liked it! it was very nice to have the support of my friends and family at this show, which i think sounded pretty swell! see ya in irvine.

saturday, january 12, 2002
the fictions @ the tiki bar, costa mesa
note: if you're ever in a band, don't be late to a show. people dont like that very much. especially in costa mesa. i think we sounded great, for the 4 songs they let us play. and it was very entertaining watching drunks dance during our set.

the fictions @ smart city grinds
this was my first show with the band. i felt odd on stage as i have never performed on stage with my keyboard. i tried my best to be a backup dancer whenever i wasnt playing keyboard, but i think ill stick to playing music. i think it went well for a first show overall. the venue was new to me also, and it was a pretty nice and quaint place. i think we're playing there again soon...
