The Moon is said to be void of course when it has moved out of it's last major aspect with another planet before moving on to another astrological sign. This is a very chaotic time and not a time to perform any magick. It doesn't usually last for more than a few hours but can last for a day or two.
Magick performed during this moon course can be very frustrating. It almost never turns out as expected and can even backfire. You shouldn't even make any life decisions while the moon is void of course.
There are two types of lunar eclipses: a partial eclipse and a penumbral (or partial shadow). Any type of magick is acceptable during an eclipse.
The shadowed areas of the moon were forests where the Goddess Diana hunted and the bright areas were plains.
The moon was a spinning wheel upon which the Goddess spun the lives of men and women.
The moon was a gem worn by the Goddess and the stars were decorations on her gown.
