Planting by the Moon and Astrological Signs: First Quarter: Plant: asparagus, broccoli, brussel sprouts, barley, cabbage, califlower, celery cucumbers, corn, cress, endive, koli rabi, lettuce, leak, oats, parsley, onions, spinach and seeds of flowering plants Best Signs: avoid the first day of the New Moon and days which changes quarters Second Quarter: Plant: beans, eggplant, muskmelon, peas, peppers, pumpkin, squash, tomatoes and watermelon Best Signs: Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces next best signs are Taurus and Capricorn Third Quarter: Plant: artichoke, beets, carrots, chicory, parsnips, potatoes, radishs, rutabaga, turnip and all bulbous flowering plants, bi-annuals and perennials Fourth Quarter: Plant: turn soil, pull weeds and destroy noxious growths Planting is best done during fruitful signs such as Scorpio, Pisces, Taurus and Cancer. Never plant during the barren signs such as Gemini, Virgio and Leo. It is best to plant things which yield above ground during the increase of the moon. Graft from any good bearing trees while the trees are dormant, from December to March. Do the grafting while the moon is from new to full, before the sap starts to flow. Planting or grafting done on a Sunday will probably not succeed as Sunday is ruled by the Sun therefore considered a dry and barren day. Libra represents beauty in form and colour is also an air sign and is the best time for planting flowers. Reaping and harvesting: Pick apples and pears in the old of the moon and the bruised spots will dry up but if they are picked in the new moon the bruised spots will rot. Harvest all crops when the moon is growing old and they will keep better and last longer. Dig foot crops for seed in the third quarter of the moon. They will keep longer drier and better. Grain intended for future use should be harvesting with the increase of the moon. |
