A Few Words

Hello and thank you for taking time out to read this article. I hope to take a few minutes and explain some of the background behind this page. I should probably start by introducing myself. I am Nightsky. No, that’s not my name name. Nor is the appearance of the character by the same name in the fiction some half-ass attempt to portray myself. The character in the stories is actually based on one of my first Shadowrun characters. I originally picked it up from the old Battletech game. Now it is simply the alias I have decided to run this page under. Plus I like the way it sounds, so fuck it. Who am I really? Just a person who finds that putting words down on paper can be interesting entertainment when the cable service gets cut off. I play shadowrun occasionally and I have popped around to some of the conventions in the. I’m also a heavy music addict with an impressive collection of Mp3s so if you see a raving lunatic with headphones around odds are that’s probably me.

Now, with that dribble out of the way, let’s get back to the subject at hand. This webpage serves as a host for fiction set in the Shadowrun universe. This site has a no submissions policy, meaning that all of the work you read is a product of my simple little mind. I don't consider myself a great writer. I don't even consider myself a good writer. The only reason this page exists is because I enjoy writing stories and a enjoy shadowrun. I'm not trying to be the best at this. I'm just trying to tell a good story and have a little fun.

I first started writing this kind fiction in 1992. The first story i wrote was “Imago” followed by “Reaching Out”, and “The Dying Game” a few years later. I didn’t really starting writing seriously again until the summer of 1998. At this point I started a storyline entitled “A Shadow of Society” that follows a group of shadowrunners through their lives in the 6th World. I suppose I’m a bit of a loon at times for trying, but I do try to sneak in the occasional deeper meaning in what I’ve written. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see it, but openly telling people the underlying meaning takes away their chance to ponder it. So no freebies. I do hope that by reading the stories I have put together you are at least entertained and relate to the characters. My goal in writing is to let the characters more than the plot hold the weight of the story.

I would also like to point out that original work on this page is copyrighted by the author(s). Shadowrun is a Registered Trademark of WizKids LLC. If there any complaints from the owners of such material the offending pieces will be removed immediately at owner's request.

Of course, some people were kind enough to email me concerning some of the subject matter, violence, and situations in my stories. So I have to say “Read at your own risk!” to keep more of this whinings out of my mailbox. People can be real bitchy about the most trivial things at times.

I feel it necessary to give thanks where it is due. Namely I would like to expression my appreciation to the people of the Bulldrek, Dumpshock, Shadowrun Writer's, and The True Facade Boards. Things would look a lot crappier without the help of these people. Thanks to those who write in as well and to the brave Gamemasters who tolerate someone like me in their games. There are so many others to thank, but I fear naming everyone will eat up the few megabytes of space I have left on this site.

As of the dawn of 2001 I am unsure what the future will hold for this website. I have gained a lot of experience in writing these works over the past few years. I don’t want to predict anything for the future as life has a habit of ruining such predictions. I can safely say that throughout my life I will always be writing something. It has become an addiction over these past few years. It may not be shadowrun, but something will always be in the works.

So thank you, goodnight, and don't shave the yak.
-Nightsky
