NIGHTSIDE NEWS

I spoke to Jonathan today about Nightside, where it will be sold in shops, when the electronic version is going up on his website, and about sequels.
He said it was a bit premature to think of "sequels in general" but he said he has mapped out two more books that will follow Nightside. He is using the working titles "Ruby Eyes" and "Deep Night". Apparently the first one will carry on with a single story about the hunt for the red-eyed creature and the second one is similar to Nightside.
It is all interesting to me as I want to publish my own book at some point, the story of how our home village was destroyed in WW2.
I also asked Jonathan about other stuff to do with Nightside, like where it was set and were the places in it places he lived when he was a lawyer. He said it was "better not to spoil the reader's pleasure" by explaining too much.

I spoke to Jonathan again today.
He said he has already started on the first sequel to Nightside, and the sequal is now definitely called RUBY EYES. It is more linear than the first book and features letters and emails instead of the news story interludes.
Jonathan said he will do a Blair Witch style website for the series as well and will link it to my site..! Sounds exciting!

Monday 10 June 2002 HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUEENIE
I spoke to Jonathan this morning.
He said he has written more of RUBY EYES. I asked him if I could appear in it and he has said he will put me in a scene Hitchcock style. He is putting himself in a scene in the same way. He said he is using quotes from the Hagakure which is a Japanese book of wise sayings. Thanks to Dr. Ken Simpson for correcting my atrocious spelling of the book's name, too BTW!
No news yet on the Blair Witch style site for NIGHTSIDE but he says it will have animation, music, links and "secret files". Sounds exciting! He is so happy about writing, it is sort of infectious.

I had another conversation with Jonathan yesterday.
Jonathan was telling me that the second book (RUBY EYES) has lots of stuff about Lilith in it.
Lilith is apparently a queen of the vampires, who was a goddess to ancient Jews or something. She appears in the book, possibly.
More importantly, he confirmed that I have made my cameo appearance in the book! ;-) I am now a celebrity! ha ha

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY TO THE YANKS~!
I had my latest conversation with Jonathan tonight.
Jonathan says that he will be on a book tour starting in October this year, signing books and so on. He says NIGHTSIDE has now sold over 200 copies and is distributed via Dymocks in George Street Sydney. He has also arranged more distribution through other shops and distributors.
He has put other people into a masqerade ball scene in the third book, including once again me and him, this time also his wife, other superfans and famous folks who want to be cameos.
THe third book is called Deep Night, the fourth book, which will be released free online on Jonathan's sites and HERE is called Black Wings. The fifth book is called A Book Of Flame and the sixth is called Nightbreak.
Jonathan also said that he has had to take a little break from writing to ramble in the hills near his home. He was exhausted from the writing. Not a surprise when you remember he has nearly written a book a week!

I had my latest conversation with Jonathan yesterday.
He has had problems with a couple of distributors, not properly referring people to the shops already holding copies. Other than that, he said, the book is still selling well. He has had American artist Jerry Seltzer, who has done lots of other fantasy artwork for books and stuff, do the cover of the new edition.
Being an excellent wheedler I got my own preview of the new cover, but I am not allowed to show it to anyone so it will be on Jonathan's site first. Visit Jonathan's site
Deep Night, the third book, is nearly finished, and the second book, Ruby Eyes is at the printers having its cover done along with the new cover of the second printing of Nightside. I have read both and asked Jonathan what characters from the first two books will be in the third. He said that Jake, Jane, Manny and Tim the Black Magician will be the only regulars in the third and fourth books, but it will really just be Jake and Jane.
Jonathan says that it is FREEZING in Canberra at present - literally! He is keeping warm in front of the fire and composing the last books in the series to date. What a life!
