Reliving the Nightmare

One-shot

Abandoned on the ocean shores, there lay a baby wrapped in a towel. The only clue to where she came from was carved in the sand next to her; the name "Amarra Tenishino" and Neptune's planetary symbol. The same symbol was burned on her ankle. Left there to die, fate would have it that a young couple found her there. Always wanting a daughter, they adopted her as their own. But she was just too different from them, they didn't understand her. So they shunned her. She grew up being rejected and called "beach rat" constantly. Eventually she got used to it and just shrugged off every insult. But when she was four, something terrible happened that changed her forever. There was a boy next door by the name of Damien that was a great deal older than her. He took a liking to her but one day, he took more than just a liking, he took advantage. Amarra was young, so she didn't understand. It lasted just over a year, until she moved. It wasn't until she was older that she realized what he'd done to her.

Amarra was an average highschool student. But she was mute. The only time she spoke was around her friends and "family", but the latter didn't seem to care too much about her. Her best friend was Rank. Amarra would always go to him for advice. Kaze was another one of her friends. He was always training in ki and was trying to train Amarra, too. Retsu was her "older brother". They all knew what a jerk her real brother was, so Retsu said he'd be her older brother. He was a bit of a trouble-maker, but you couldn't tell just by looking at him. Vash was her boyfriend. He was a little prude, but Amarra was starting to change that.

"We're going to train in the park today, right?" Kaze asked Amarra as they walked to class.

"Is everyone else going?" Amarra asked.

"Yeah, I think so."

"What time?"

"Right after school."

"Alright, fine by me."

Kaze and Amarra had sixth period together. All of them trained in the Elements, too. Amarra was water, Kaze was wind, Rank was fire, Vash was electricity, and Retsu was ice. Together they were an unstoppable storm. Amarra and Kaze did their work until school was over. They met up with everyone else and walked to the park. They all sat down in the grass trying to syncronize with eachother. After a few minutes everyone was equal except for Amarra.

"What's wrong, 'marra?" Vash asked.

"Just nightmares..." Amarra sighed, trying not to think about them.

"Still? It's been like two weeks," Rank said.

"Just forget about it, I'll be fine," Amarra replied, closing her eyes. "Now, let's continue."

Amarra was the last to syncronize herself with everyone else. The moment she did, her nightmare started playing in everyone's mind. It only lasted a few seconds, because when she realized what was happening, she cut off her connection with everyone else.

"Sorry," Amarra said quietly, looking at the ground.

Everyone else stared silently at her. They'd only seen the nightmare for a moment, but she'd be seeing it her whole life. Amarra stood up and looked at five approaching men. She'd seen them before; the last time she saw Damien...

"What's wrong?" Retsu asked her, standing up as well.

Amarra stared silently as the men came closer, clenching her fists so tightly her nails dug into her and she started bleeding.

"I sense it, too," Kaze said, standing behind her.

Amarra looked at the five from left to right. She recognized them all immediately. First was Trex, Damien's right-hand man. He did anything asked of him, like a lap dog. Next was Adin, the strongest of all of them. Then Axel; he was weak, but he was the brains of the group. Sheen was a little disagreeable, but Damien kept him around because he was a tactical fighter. Last was Tamark; he was an expert at finding people's weaknesses.

"Been a long time, beach rat," Trex said, holding his hand up, signaling the others not to come any closer.

"Not long enough," Amarra snapped.

"Amarra, who are these guys?" Rank asked, stepping closer.

"Stay back," Amarra said, walking closer to Damien's minions.

All of them with the exception of Tamark ran forward and attacked. Amarra was a great fighter and she was doing well. She only took on a few hits and was doing a lot of damage. Axel pulled out a knife and slashed her shoulder. The other three backed off and let her and Axel battle it out. Amarra grabbed his knife, knocked him to the ground, and cut his throat. She wiped the blood from the knife and went for the others.

"Stop right there," Tamark yelled, holding a knife to Vash's neck.

Amarra stared at him with hatred. He had found her weakness.

"Drop it," Tamark said, pressing the blade against Vash's neck. "Now."

"If I do, you must set him free," Amarra said, keeping her guard up.

"Fine."

Amarra threw the knife down and dropped her guard. Trex got behind her, cuffed her hands behind her back, and pushed her to the ground. Tamark let go of Vash and went to join the other three. All four of them took advantage of the fact that she couldn't fight back and beat the hell out of her. Her friends couldn't take watching anymore and went for the attack. Tamark pulled Amarra to her feet by her hair and stood behind her with a knife to her throat.

"One more step and she dies," he warned her friends.

They backed off and Tamark pushed her to the ground again. Amarra sat on her knees, head bowed, her hair covering her face. She sensed someone else coming and knew immediately who it was...Damien. He looked at the girl on the ground and grabbed her hair, pulling her head back so he could see her face.

"On your knees again, rat?" Damien laughed, letting go.

"What should her fate be, my Lord?" Trex asked, standing behind him.

"Several hours in my chambers should suffice."

"No!" Amarra screamed, her mind flooded with horrible memories. "I though you were done with me..."

"I changed my mind. And now I've found you and you will do exactly as I say."

"No...not here...not like this...I beg of you."

"Tell you what, I'll give you a choice. You can either come with me for a few hours and I will return you here when I'm done," he paused, pulled out a gun, and held it to her head,"or you can die right here and now and spray your friends with your blood."

Amarra bowed her head lower, hiding her eyes. "Isn't there any other way?"

"Your life or your body, rodent. Pick one," Damien replied.

"No, I can't make that decision."

"Fine, then," he said, turning away from her, facing her friends,"I'll give one of you the choice. You will get to decide what happens to her. But, no matter what you choose, you'll have to watch it happen."

They looked back and forth to eachother. They were all still syncronized so they could read eachothers' minds.

"You forgot about the third choice," Vash said, smirking.

Amarra looked up, wondering what he was planning. Then she looked at the others. She knew she needed to syncronize with them in order to bring their powers together. She closed her eyes and stood up, connecting with them again.

~Don't worry, we're going to fight for you~ Rank said to her through his mind.

~But...I'll need to fight, too...and I can't do much with my hands like this~ Amarra replied.

~We'll be doing most of the fighting. Everyone pick an opponent~ Kaze told everyone.

They all moved so they were facing someone. Rank took on Trex, Retsu took Sheen, Vash took Tamark, and Kaze faced Adin.

"You actually plan to fight?" Damien laughed, scratching his head with his gun cockily.

Amarra explained their opponents to everyone and gave Kaze extra warning, since Adin was the strongest. They all had weapons on them, as well.

"Now!" Kaze yelled, charging forward.

Amarra jumped up and swung her hands under her feet so that they were in front of her. Damien pointed the gun at her and Amarra kicked it out of his hand. Amarra ran to the body of Axel, she was sure he had the keys to her cuffs; she was right. But as she was freeing herself, Damien pushed her to the ground and held her down, covering her mouth.

"Well, now...doesn't this look familiar?" Damien laughed.

Amarra gripped the keys in her hand tightly and slashed Damien across the face with them. She pushed him off her and unlocked her cuffs. Damien lay on the ground, holding his hand over his eye, blood pouring through his fingers. Amarra grabbed the knife from Axel's body and stood over Damien, looking down at him. For once, he was at her mercy. Amarra looked over at the battle her friends were fighting for her. Sheen and Tamark were on the ground. She knew right away that they were dead. Retsu had joined Rank in the attack against Trex. Vash and Kaze were fighting Adin. After a long time, Retsu got hold of Trex's knife and killed him. All four of them took down Adin. Rank stabbed the knife into Adin's throat and they all watched him die. Amarra's grip tightened around the hilt of her knife. Her friends had shown no mercy, why should she? She looked down to where Damien was, but was no longer. She looked around frantically, she knew her mistake was taking her eyes off him. She heard a gunshot and looked over to her friends. There was a look of horror in all their eyes. She felt a sharp pain in her side and put her hand over it. She took her hand away and looked at it, covered in blood. Amarra looked ahead of her to Damien, holding up the gun, smirking, blood pouring from his eye. Amarra fell to the ground, dizzy from blood loss.

"I'll see you in hell," Damien laughed, holding the gun to his own head. He pulled the trigger and fell to the ground, soaking the area around him in blood.

Amarra's friends ran to her. Vash kneeled next to her and held her in his arms, tears in his eyes. She looked around at the faces of her friends and closed her eyes.

"Amarra, no...please, don't leave me," Vash said softly, crying.

"I must. My nightmare ends today...I love you...I love you, all," Amarra said with her very last breath.

All of them broke down as they felt her fall out of sync with them. But they knew that the pain would haunt her no longer.

THE END
