Genesis of Chaos -------------------- Chapter 1 -------------------- Raine walked along an alley way that led to the harbor area of New York City. It was about 8pm or so,and pretty much everyone was at their homes, warm, safe, and happy.Raine was happy, but she had run away from home when she was 11. She doubted she would ever go back, she had run so far from the father she despised. Raine had been brought up by a wonderful mother, but her world shattered the day she died, over seven years ago.She had come a long way to get away from her old life, she had hitch-hiked all the way from California. It took her three years to get to New York, and she was happy living on her own, even if she didn't have a home to go home to.The reason she left was because her father used to beat her,but the night she had left, was the worst experiences of her life.He was drunk, came home late. Not too unoridinary for him to do so but,he was angry because his boss of six years had fired him,and he had took his anger out on her.She had never been beaten down as bad as she had that night. After he had passed out,she packed the few sentimental belongings she had, clothes, and the money from her father's wallet, walked out the house, and swore to herself she would never let herself be treated like that again. But when she was 12,she started to get spasms, painful ones, that came every once in awhile. The first 'attack' that ever overtook her, happened when she was 13.She was in a public restroom,in a grocery store, when she had a spasm. She felt like she was on fire, then she heard a ear splitting sound, like the world around her was exploding. When she had opened her eyes.It had.The whole left half of the store was demolished, and she had done it.The casualties were high, thirteen people died that day that didn't have to.She ran faster that day then ever in her life.No one had known it was her, then at that time, mutants didn't 'exist',and she felt alienated from everyday life. She was different. None of that mattered much to her anymore. She could suppress the attacks, and she only had two more 'accidents' after the first, but no more casualties.Still,it was hard on her, having blood on her hands. Raine headed out onto one of the deserted docks,to find a place to rest for the night.Raine smiled to herself, watching her feet fall quietly on the dock.A bright light suddenly caught her eye.She looked up to see a bright light flowing from the statue of liberty. It looked like a cloud of light.Raine awed, wondering if it was some kind of show,or if they put a light in it."Wha??"She breathed. She heard a sound as something bumped into the dock. She squatted down and looked over the edge. She gasped and quickly reached down.A young man was floating, lifeless, face up in the water. She reached for him, grabbing a hold of his black leather jacket. She struggled to pull him up,he was heavy for her,but he wasn't fat.He looked lean, and pretty tall. She grit her teeth and pulled him up onto the dock, and carefully laid him out on his back. She leaned over and put a hand to his cheek. He was cold, his eyes were closed, and his short brown hair was meshed around from the water. He was cold, and wasn't breathing. She grabbed a hold of his hand and checked for a pulse.None. Raine stood up quickly and paced back and forth infront of the dead young man.Raine looked to her side and squinted as the light got brighter. She felt her skin grow warm, and her hands ached slightly. She looked back at the lifeless man,and squatted down.If she could see her eyes, she would have been surprised, for they were glowing brightly white. She leaned down, and at on her knees.Barely aware of what she was doing, she pressed her hands to the man's chest. As soon as her hands touched his chest, the man jerked upwards as if she had shocked him with a bolt of electricity.Raine gagged,as she felt her lungs fill with water. The man beneath her also began to cough out water from his lungs and stir.Raine fell on her side, and leaned on her left hand on the wooden boards of the dock, coughing out water. The man breathed heavily and sat up beside her, shaking his head.Raine breathed in heavily, gasping for oxygen.Raine leaned back, and lay down on the dock, resting. She felt like she just ran a marathon. She looked over at the man,who seemed to have control of his breathing."Are..are you okay??"She asked. He looked at her quickly, confusion quickly flashing over his features. His eyes narrowed at her, then softened,as if he wondered why she would save him from his watery death.A second later, the glare was back, and the man sprung to his feet, and much to her surprise, leapt away,at least fifteen feet from her,and when he landed,he quickly began to run from her,off into a dark alley. Raine sat, confused, cold, and shaking. She felt very weak....she had absorbed something from the atmosphere around her....she had to release it,but...it would cause an explosion, one she did not wish to create. She laid back again, trying to hold in the attack. The light was gone, from the statue. It had been about...how many....ten or so minutes since it vanished.Suddenly, she heard feet, running on the dock.To her?No...obviously not, they were probably wanting to see what that light was about. Before she passed out,Raine saw a man skid to a stop above her.He had an odd visor over his eyes, and was wearing an odd body suit.Raine then blacked out, just as the man called out to her. ---------------- Chapter 2 ----------------- Erik Lensher sat quietly in a chair in the plastic cell he had been staying in.The humans were fools if they thought they could confine him.He would escape. It was merely just a matter of time.He smiled lightly to himself. He already knew that human kind wasn't meant to evolve as he had earlier planned. He had a new plan....create a way to make human cells evolve. He had an idea of how to do it,but it wouldn't start in this cell.He had been there for a week now,but no matter. The cell door unlocked, and in walked a prison guard. He walked over to Erik, stoically.Erik smiled lightly at the 'man',who in return flashed yellow eyes at him.He was free now. The 'guard' handed him a helmet, his helmet. The guard smiled,"Come,Erik. We should depart." ---------------- Raine stirred in her sleep. She opened her eyes,to see a bright light blaring down at her.She groaned and sat up.She was on a gurney. She was in her tanktop and jean shorts, but the flannel she had on was gone.So were her socks and knee high black combat boots. She looked around at her settings. She was alone,in some odd, freaky laboratory that looked like it belong in a horror movie. The walls, ceiling, and tile floor was white.Practically everything was white, which only made seeing harder for her. She got up and shivered when her feet touched the cool tile floor. She noticed the wire strapped to her left hand pinkie finger, which was hooked up to a monitor, and took it off.She slowly walked towards the open door. She felt somewhat scared, and apprehensive, like someone was gonna jump out at her or something, like in some freaky horror movie. Where are you going? Raine jumped. She looked around wildly, but no one was around. She frowned, double checking."Who's there??" I am Charles Xavier. Raine frowned again."Where are you?" In your mind. Raine felt a cold shiver run down her spine. This was weird.Very freaking weird."Aha.Okay...so,um,why are you in my mind?" "To understand you better." Raine jumped and whirled around.A man sat,in a odd wheelchair, and next to him stood a woman with white hair, and a tall man,the man with the odd visors. The man in the wheelchair smiled."Welcome to my home, and the home of many like yourself." "Like myself, what do you mean?"She asked, standing shorter than the man and woman. The man kept his smile."A highly evolved human." "I'm not a mutant if your nudging at that."Raine replied, annoyed."I didn't 'evolve'...I was born like this,so don't go calling names." "He's not accusing you."The woman said softly."And you seem so defensive of the subject.Have you been shun from normal life because of yourself?" Raine was silent."I haven't." The bald man was looking at her, wondering why she was hiding something. Raine felt a presence in her mind,a very soft presence, but it was there. She grabbed her temples and turned away."Get out of my head!!" "I apologize. My actions are rude, but only wonder what you are hiding."Xavier replied. The presence faded away, from her mind.Raine shuddered. That feeling was so impersonal, someone in her mind."Why did you do that?I don't have to tell you anything I don't want to!" Xavier nodded. He motioned for her to follow him as he turned his chair."Come, you look hungry.Lunch should be done right about now." -------- Chp.3 -------- "What's your name?" "Selena Raine Cusak." "Age?" "42." "Funny.Age?" "17." "Height?" "5'6." "Weight?" "862 pounds." "Weight?" "120-something,I dunno."Raine replied, slightly annoyed,as the woman,Jean Grey as she had been introduced as,plunged a needle in her shoulder and collected a blood sample. "How long have you been on your own?"Jean asked, pulling out the needle and removing the sample and placing it into a refrigerated container. "Oh...I dunno, since I was like 11 or so.I don't like to think about it."Raine replied, watching Jean as she picked up a separate needle to take a DNA sample."Is this actually necessary?" "Yes,if you want to know the extent of your mutation."Jean said, carefully pushing the needle into her arm.The girl didn't flinch, even as the needle dipped deeper to collect the sample. "So...what exactly is this 'school' for?"Raine asked as Jean put a bit of Raine's DNA on a slide and slipped it beneath a microscope. Jean adjusted the nobs so that the DNA showed up clearly."It's a school for young adults, who are genetically evolved and gifted,to come and attend a school with others like their selves, get an education, and also to develop and control their abilites." "Sounds fun."Raine replied, lightly. "Odd..."Jean noted,as the strands showed up. "What?"Raine asked, pulling down her sleeve of her shirt that had been rolled up. This wasn't possible. The DNA didn't have a double helix, she had a quadruple helix.Jean leaned back and stared forward and gaped for a second. She couldn't explain what she was seeing. She leaned back down and stared back into the scope,in awe.The strand itself was made of the basic ingredients;hydrogen, oxygen, carbon in the helical phosphate ester chains, and phosporus. But there was something else. She couldn't tell what it was.She would later have to run it through a molecular analyzer. "Let me guess...you took some blood, analyzed it,and it's funky."Raine smiled, leaning back lazily on the gurney. "Yes,er,"Jean shook her head,"There's something different about your DNA.I'm going to have to analyze this sample." "So I get to sit down here and watch?"Raine asked. "Well,if you like, you can start class,or you could hang out in the rec room or living room."Jean suggested. "I got a classphobia thing,so...you don't mind me gettin all frumpy in the living room? Can I have some curlers too?"Raine asked, cracking a smile. Jean smiled. She had to give the girl credit, she was witty."If that will make you happy." "Coolage."Raine said, hopping off the gurney. ----------- Toad crept quietly up the side of an abandoned hotel, and crawled into a broken window. He jumped down onto the floor. He grimaced as pain shot down his spine from the battle he had a week previous. He shook it off and looked about at his surroundings. He was in a lobby. He sighed lightly and walked towards a old couch and laid down heavily. He ignored the sharp pains in his stomach, which were from lack of food the last week.He grit his teeth and shut his eyes.A image of that girl popped up in his mind.He jerked and sat up quickly. He glared and wondered why he was thinking of her.She brought me back to life.I was cold, dead and floating in the damn sea.He stood up,and leaned against the wall,a little too quickly, and banged his head against the wall.An annoyed look crossed his features. "So...your alive too?" Sabertooth's gruff voice snapped Toad out of his train of thoughts.Toad frowned lightly, before returning his stoic look."You can say I bounce back easily." "Well...good.We're back in action.Magneto has escaped from his prison, and Mystique is with him.We are to meet at headquarters, which is at a new location. So lets go already."Sabertooth said, motioning for Toad to follow him. "Your the one chatting away."Toad remarked, moving to follow Sabertooth. Sabertooth shot him a cold look before turning and walking out the door."By the way,we have a new mission,so you better get rest tonight."Sabertooth said over his shoulder. ----------------- Raine walked slowly through a hallway of the mansion, the 'school'.Raine felt oddly out of place, that she shouldn't be there.Raine stepped around a corner, only to bump into someone and fell back, sprawling. "Sorry!" Raine didn't even touch the floor. She looked up to see that a boy had caught her wrist and steadied her.Raine stepped back, shocked at the boy's appearance. He was taller than her,his skin was a shade of pale blue, and dark blue around his hair line.He had short black hair, and extremely pale blue eyes.He looked 18 or 19 or so. "What?"He asked. He then got a slightly annoyed look."Gawking at me isn't nice,ya know." Raine shook her head lightly,to clear it."Sorry.I just never-" "Seen a blue person?Yeah,I get that alot. But not here.I fit in okay here, more than out there."He replied. "Well,I can see why."Raine said, trying to joke a little. The boy cracked a smile."So,what can you do?" "Do?"Raine asked."Oh,you mean,am I a mutant?" "Yeah."He replied. "I dunno...I accidently blew up a grocery store when I was young..."She trailed off. "Really? How?"He asked. "I don't like talking about it."Raine replied. "I understand. There are some things I don't like to talk about either."He said, smiling. He turned."Well,I'm kinda late for class,so catch ya later." Raine nodded and continued down the hallway, walking aimlessly. "Ms. Cusak?" Raine turned to see Xavier,by the doorway, sitting in his wheelchair. She turned and walked over to him."Hi Mr.Xavier." He smiled."I've been wanting to talk with you." ------------ Chapter 4 ----------- Raine follwed Xavier,as he rode his wheelchair across a walkway through a courtyard in the back side of the mansion. She was silent, knowing what he wanted to know about herself. She felt nervous, she didn't want to talk about her powers. "You don't have to be nervous.Or fear your powers."Xavier said, stopping infront of an ornamental foutain. He looked up to her, smiling at her warmly. Raine shuddered. She knew he knew what she was thinking. It really creeped her out, knowing if he wanted, could open every nook and cranny of her mind. "I could, but I have manners.I'd rather you to explain your powers to me,instead of using telepathic abilities."Xavier replied. He folded his hands across his lap. Raine sighed."I..Well..It's hard to explain,I don't really understand exactly how my powers work." "Take your time."Xavier replied. "Maybe a demonstration is better."Raine replied, stepping away from Xavier. She didn't notice that the students that attended the school were looking out the windows. Raine bent down and untied her boots and slipped them off, along with her socks. She stepped over the side of the fountain and into the cold, knee length water.Luckily she didn't have on pants, but jean shorts. She walked carefully to the middle of the fountain. She turned back to Xavier."Last Friday,I brought a man back to life.I...used my power greatly, and doing so...I absorbed a bunch of energy somehow...but after I use my power, when I cure someone,or do something else...The energy stays in me...and builds up.But after awhile,I have to release it,or I get sick, and really weak." Xavier nodded, trying to hide his surprise. The power to bring someone back alive, that could be the very key to show mankind that mutation didn't need to be feared, but embraced and developed healthily. "When I was young,I couldn't control my powers at all. Now,I have better control, but I feel like there's more to it...than what I've tapped into."Raine said, softly. She closed her eyes softly."I'm going to release it now...if you get hurt...don't worry...I can heal you." Xavier felt wonder and awe at this girl.He knew she wouldn't intentionally harm him. Beads of sweat appeared on Raine's arms and forehead. She started shaking lightly. No turning back now.Raine's feet lifted slowly off the ground, and she floated up slowly, out of the water and a foot above it.Her skin grew hot,and began glowing a reddish orange.Raine opened her mouth, breathless.A second later, the whole fountain ignited in flames,a bright ball of fire, all around Raine. Xavier moved his chair forward, slightly in worry. He couldn't see her through the flames. "Back!Don't come any closer!!"Raine screamed through the flames.A moment later, the flames vanished in thin air.The fountain wasn't burnt, but the water was gone.Raine was still floating, untouched by the flames. Raine shuddered as she dropped herself to the ground, and down to her knees. She coughed lightly, breathing in air.The flames that were once around her had sucked all the air out her lungs.A moment later, after she composed herself, she stood up shakily, and looked at Xavier. "Impressive."Xavier said."But,it's dangerous. All the air in the area had grown thin a moment ago,but I saw how your condition when you landed." "I'm okay.It never lasts long any ways,it always fades away before I suffocate."Raine replied. She stepped out the fountain and started to put back on her shoes and socks. Xavier wheeled over to her side."I have a question." Raine looked up from tying her boots."What?" "How did you keep the fire in a ball, and from burning everything around you,and yourself?"Xavier asked. Raine shrugged."I held it together.Just like when I use the power,I can control it,but it's tiring. And I haven't always been able to control it."Raine said lifting her arms up to reveal identical scarring on the sides of her arms. Xavier nodded."Why didn't you heal yourself?" Raine looked back at her boots."Because,I can't heal myself...I don't know why." "Do not worry,we'll find out how to control your abilities. You do not have to worry at all."Xavier said, reassuring her. ----------- "The pyrogenic and elctrogenic activity in her body tissue is way beyond mutation. She didn't mutate, she was born evolved. Her parent's were probably carrying the exact genes that it took to create such a hybrid of DNA,not to mention her mutation at puberty, which gives her the abilities she has."Jean said to Xavier, who was sitting patiently in his wheelchair as she examined Raine's DNA.Raine was lying down in a scanning device, waiting for Jean to start another test.It was as wide and tall as a bath tub,and had several machines hooked up to it. "So she absorbs energy around her and creates fire within herself?"Xavier questioned. "Yes,somewhat.I'm not sure, but,it seems that she absorbs ions in the atmosphere around her and turns it into energy, whether it's fire, healing,or something else."Jean replied. She was looking at the results of tests she had run previously."And I'm completely stumped with her DNA starnds.I can't think of a scientific explanation for a quadruple helix." "So,I'm like a 'mother of a mutants' or 'pure-bred mutant'?"Raine asked, annoyed. "Well, what ever title fits you,is your decision."Jean replied, turning on a electroencephalograph. She walked over to the front of the scanning device, which Jean called it a 'Bio-genetic Analyzer'.She smiled lightly at Raine,to reassure her not to be worried."Now,all I'm doing now is analyzing your brain waves, the electrical impulses in your mind." Raine nodded."Okay,sure." Xavier wheeled over to a monitor and watched as the readings came up."Jean." Jean walked over and looked. She stepped back, taken aback at what she saw."It's-" "Exactly."Xavier replied. ------------ Chp.5 ------------ Magneto floated ominosly above an old military complex, which was rundown and abandoned. It was useless to go back to their previous headquaters.Charles already knew the location. But,Xavier would have a harder time finding this one.It was located beneath the ruins of an old military base.He had Toad and Sabertooth, and of course,Mystique to help clear out the sub levels and make it a formidable hideout. His feet landed lightly on the pavement near a medical facility compound.Near the door stood his three loyal companions. His brotherhood. He smiled."I'm glad to see you three survived the battle. We've yet to begin fighting the war." ------------ "Now,I want you all to read at least three chapters from the history book over the weekend, and write a summary of each."Ororo Moroe said, walking to her desk in her classroom. "Yes Ms.Monroe."The class echoed at her. Ororo smiled, and watched her dispersing class. She kept her smile as Rogue approached her. "Storm?"Rogue asked, stopping infront of her. "Yes,Marie?"She replied. Rogue smiled."I'm happy you all came for me.I was scared, but somehow I knew...you all would help me." Ororo smiled, and hugged Rouge lightly, reassuring her."You are on of us,an X-man.I'll protect you always." Rogue hugged her back."And I'll protect you all with my life." "Now,"Ororo said, walking Rogue to the door."You head out and have fun with your friends." "Okay."Rogue said, smiling, and walking off. --------------- Raine sighed to herself as she walked through a field. She had heard Jean and Xavier talking. There was a...instrument,implanted in her brain. It was small, and it was beneath her skull. It was activating parts of her brain that should be dormant,to wake up.That's how she could control the fire and the electricity she could create. She didn't want it though. She asked Jean if she could remove it,but Jean said she wasn't sure. A loud neighing sound made her jump and whirl around.A girl was there,on a beautiful horse. The girl had very short black hair, dark eyes, hoop earrings on,and a bright yellow jacket. She was also wearing jeans and a black tee,and sneakers. "Wow...that's such a beautiful horse."Raine said, admiring the horse. "It's an Appaloosa."The girl replied. "I've never seen a horse this close up before....it is huge..."Raine said, reaching out and touching the mane of the horse. "Her name is Dapple-bee."The girl replied."I'm Juiblee,by the way." Raine smiled."I'm Raine." "I know.I saw what you did in the fountain. That was so wicked cool."Jubilee replied,in awe. Raine blushed lightly. "So,what's your other name?Do you have a mutant name?"Jubilee asked. "Ur..no."Raine replied."You mean like Ms.Monroe is Storm?" "Yeah."Jubilee replied. "I haven't really given it much thought really."Raine replied. "Hmmm..."Jubilee trailed, trying to come up a name for for Raine.Jubilee held her hand out to Raine"C'mon,I'll give you a lift back to the house." Raine took her hand and put her foot in the holster and pulled herself up and sat behind Jubilee. "How about Pyro or somethin?"Jubilee suggested. "I don't think so."Raine replied. "Pyroess?" "Nah." "Firestorm?" "...uh.." "Fireball?" "........." "Firefly??" Raine giggled at the thought of using such a dorky name."Nah." "Firestrom?Lightningbug?" Raine laughed harder as they galloped lightly on 'Dapple-bee'. "Well...I'm trying already!"Jubilee exclaimed, giggling lightly.
