Hawk: Out to save the girl he cares about and to avenege his friend ...

<BGSOUND SRC="music/damndamndrum.mid">

Hawk (aka Hawkeye in different translation), is a very well balanced character. As is, if you don't like surprises opening a treasure chest, that is no concern with Hawk doing it. He has a double strike and is fast. His Light and Dark classes make him a versatile character. Ranger and Ninja are both great classes, getting nice spells in both cases. Hawk is my presonal favorite character, then again, I like ninjas and fast characters in general. Hawk was in my first team and did serve me well in the game. A great character for beginners' teams and one as well for intermediate and advanced players. He is a complex character to use, but one that will do good for the first time if you like balance.

SD 3 Manual:
"Hawk is a thief by trade, and is a master of what he does. Nothing is known about his past, but it can be assumed he was an orphan. He is very close to the royalty at Navarre, as he is in love with the princess, Jessica, and is a good friend of the prince, Eagle. Hawk is a very mysterious but powerful person. Weapons of Choice-Twin Daggers, twin knives, or twin two ended daggers."

Thief

Tech: Backslash

This is how Hawk starts, a simple thief. A young but skilled person in his trade in the guild, he is best friends with Eagle, son of his leader. He is skilled at opening chest, avoiding the traps that may lie in them. The double slash for a standard attack makes it very easy for him to build up to tech, so don't be afraid to use it in battle, you can get it back very fast. Back slash itself is a multi-hit tech, making it deadly even early on in the game to the enemies around you. Make use of him, even if he is the second or third character you choose if solely for getting the treasures. I do recommend him for your first game, giving you a nice and very well balanced character to work with.
A little history lesson: Navarre wasn't always a desert, it used to be lush forest. This lead to the people of the guild being Rangers. Time passed and things changed into the desert it is today giving rise to the Ninjas of the current generation.

The Light

Ranger

Tech: Flying Swallow Toss(FULL)

"The Ranger communes with nature, can identify monsters, and sets traps. He uses supporting spells, and can change his appearance as camouflage."

The only first class with a full screen tech for Hawk. Not as strong, yes, but makes up for that in skill. Through this class, you get Rogue and Wanderer, both very useful classes in their own rights. Not the best skills are gained here, but later, with the second class, they get much better, just remember it's a simple choice of skills or offense. Simple and the full screen will help greatly until you can get to the second change. Ranger is a diamond in the rough, Rogue and Wanderer are the finished diamond. Half of the spells damage, one puts them to sleep and one changes them into a pathetic blob.

Rogue

Requires: Bad Luck Dye

Techs: Thousand Slash
"The Rogue always looks out for himself, and will use any means necessary to get his task done. He is often viewed as a violent person, but he is not on the Dark side. He can set stronger traps than the Ranger, and can use Tree and Moon spells."

This is a nice class, the tech is great to watch and you know it has to hurt :] This is something I would recommend for first time people who go Light. He is stronger than a Wanderer, making it more ideal for a more inexperienced player or someone who likes to attack more than use spells, he also is the luckiest of all the classes. He has no full screen tech though, so if you want to attack all, you need to just use the last one you got. His spells have a bit of variety for you, so if you need to cash in on them. Silver Dart does Light Damage, Grenade Bomb Tree Type, Rocket Launcher Fire, Cresent does Dark.

Wanderer

Requires: Good Luck Dye

Techs: Dance of Roses
"The Wanderer has separated himself from society and resides in nature. He knows the Ranger's techniques and can use 'Tree' and 'Moon' spells. He uses a weapon called 'Oriharkon', which is tempered from legendary metal."

Hawk gone entirely to the Light. Now he kinda looks like a Robin Hood rip off in his Sub-screen pose (I'm not the only one who has said that). That aside, this is spell based class with the tech, Dance Of Roses. Personally, this one ranks just below the Split-Image Slice tech on my list, even those it's a single target. Now, he's more a support-magic user than attacker. His spells become very useful as you get more of them, he is one of the few that WILL fill up all his magic slots. And with the way these spells are, it makes things all the more tempting. Because of the lower offense and more spell-based character, this class isn't recommended for beginners, intermediate players or intense magic users will find good use of this class. Aura wave maxes out the tech gauge, Counter Magic is just reflect, Transhape let's a character get a breather and he's got Life Booster and Energy Ball. With the spells he has, it's better to just use them, he's not the best fighter, but he'll help more in other ways.

The Dark

Ninja

Techs: Silhouette Slice
The Ninja has mastered the art of silently killing the enemy. He can control nature and uses the four elementals as means of attack. He can also use Shurikens, but he normally uses a weapon called "Fudoumyou ou".

Hawk going to the dark side. Ninja I feel is a more physical class than anything, with only stat lower spells, so what are you waiting for? Beat them senseless. Luck isn't as high as the light side, but slightly higher strength, agility and intellenge. It's a good class and does help with getting ready for the second class change, but even then it depends on what you like about this class. Just remember, ALL his spells are based on his dexterity.
The spells are self explanatory, each do an elemental type of damage and have certain effects:
Shurkien is non-elemental damage as it lowers the hit-rate of the target.
Earth Jutsu does earth-type damage and lowers evade rate.
Water Jutsu does water damage and lowers attack power.
Fire Jutsu does fire damage and lowers magic attack.
Thunder Jutsu does wind damage and lowers defense.

Tech: Shadow Dive

"The advanced class of Ninja is the Ninja Master. He can do rapid Shuriken throws, hide in shadows, and attacks with the four elementals. He uses 'Kongourakan', the strongest Ninja knife."

Think Ninja, just add multi-target to everything with a new tech and higher stats. If the Ninja was really your style, then this is the class for you. This class has the highest Agility rating of all his classes and just a little better luck then the Nightblade. If not this class, then Nightblade is for you.

Earth Jutsu - MP 3
Fire Jutsu - MP 3
Water Jutsu - MP 3
Thunder Jutsu - MP 3

Night Blade

Tech: Split-Image Slice(FULL)

"Night Blade is professional assassin who kills enemies with certainty. He is experienced at using poisonous mists, poisonous needle traps, and a weapon called 'Death Stroke', which looks like a long needle."

This was the class I first chose for Hawk (thus it became my personal favorite class out of the whole game). It's his strongest class and has a wide variety with his spells. Almost all of them having Status effects is just icing on the cake. This is also his strongest class in the game. Once you see his tech, you'll probably agree with me. If you were looking for the Hawk "Power House" you've just found it. Black rain is the only multi-target spell for this class.
Poison Mist - self expanitory
Blow Needles - Causes Silence
Black Rain - Dark Damage and a lot of it
Deadly Weapon - lowers the target's max HP
Flame Breath - BURN BABY BURN!

Poison Mist - MP 3 - Learned at Dexterity 18
Blow Needles - MP 3 - Learned at Dexterity 18

Beginnings:

It begins simply, "Where there is light, there's shadow. Living in that shadow is the Navarre Thieves Guild". The narrator goes on to explain the morals and introduce Hawk a little with him. When you first get control, you're taking job is to go to the chest (you know you want to anyhow) and taking the money from it. The guy wakes up and Hawk lectures him. Then like any good theif, he leaves the scene. From there, it goes to the throne room in the Thieves' fortress, Hawk reporting on how his raid went. After that, the lady behind the throne, Isabella, comes forward to tell Hawk some annoucement's he missed. Chiefly, the guild is now a kingdom and they're going to invade Rolate.
Hawk is in his room, Jessica (Hawk's crush), comes and they start taking about the changes, the possible reason for it. He gets her angry at him after a while and gets slapped for it. Now you're in control of Hawk again. The goal right now is to find Eagle, Jessica's brother and Hawk's best friend. Go up to get away from the window then go down the stairs in the upper right. Follow the stairs down and through the door. If you talk to the first guard you see, he'll tell you Jessica was crying and to stay away from her. Go through the top door and go to the right just before the double doors with a guard on each side (talk to the one on the right, he says something kinda funny, sexual, but funny) (another note, if you go through the right door at the bottom of the stairs and the first door through there, you'll find Jessica, she won't talk to you at all though) after reaching the top right side, go down and through the doorway there. Again, down, staying on the right side, taking the staircase. This takes you to a tarven where you'll find out that Eagle is looking for you and one of them gives you directions from there to his room. From this room if you're lazy, just go out the bottom right door, stay to the right and there's a kinda hidden staircase on the right side, that leads to Eagle's room.
He'll ask you if you think his Father is acting strange, it's you're call on that (but it is odd). He talks a bit about his and Hawk's past, and how his father seemed to change after he brought Isabella back from the desert. "Coincidence? I don't think so. I'm gonna figure this out if it kills me!" he leaves the room. Great, now you gotta find him again (it's pretty easy this time though). Leave the room and go back to the tavern, go up 3 screens (take the doors on the right for the quickest route) until you find a door with two guards, you're there. When you go through the door Eagle is standing near a doorframe, he dashes over to the other side and you two hear Isabella and someone else talking. Hawk and Eagle burst in, bad move. The stranger leaves and Isabella takes control of Eagle. You can't lose this battle, just keep fighting and use your special when you can, eventually you'll knock him out. Isabella compliments you on winning then blast the just recovering Eagle with a firespell. Go over to Eagle and talk to him, he won't respond so Hawk starts at Isabella, she just overs over to Eagle's father, he gets up and a squad of ninjas show up, Hawk tries to convince them that he didn't do it, but that fails and they throw him in jail.
The scene returns with Hawk in Jail, Isabella, the king and the ninjas there. Hawk's being accused of Eagle's murder and is sentenced to death for it. Everyone execpt Isabella leaves. She comes up and tells Hawk that she put a cursed necklace on Jessica and if he tells anyone, it'll kill Jessica. Now you're stuck in the cell, go up the bars and hit them, after the 3rd time, he'll stop. The 4th time, who else comes next but Jessica to find out the truth if Hawk really did kill Eagle. All Hawk can do is just be quiet, she assumes the worst and runs out on Hawk. No more beating and yelling at the bars, go to the back of the cell and hit A against the wall. Keep hitting it and eventually Nikita comes and blows the wall apart, JAIL BREAK! There's only one way to go, so go to go, running to fit the mood. Nikita tells you that there maybe a way to break the curse on Jessica, go to the Priest Of Light in Wendel. Nikita then tells you to just get out of there and head for Wendel. Once outside, someone shouts out you've escaped. Time to ditch this place, circle to the right, go up the ramp on that side of the pillar you came out of. Run up it to the left, go down, into the cave. Go down the stairs you come across, if you're in the right room, the top double doors should be locked, so just go through the bottom opening. Hawk now proceeds to leave his old home and swear revenge for his friend's death.
