Background: Louis is the son of William Penn. William was not born in Ravenloft, having been born in the world of Toril. William was part of the city guard of Waterdeep, keeping watch in the dead of night. It was on one of these night watches that tragedy befell the honorable man, and what brought him to the land of the mists. One night during the phase of a new moon, a group of vampires attacked some of the city guard that was patrolling just outside the wall of waterdeep. They were being led by a powerful master vampire and were in the thrall of bloodlust, attacking every living being in sight for the much needed substance. William was half-asleep when the attack was started and it took him a few moments before he registered the sounds of screams coming from just below him. When he finally came to his senses, William ran down a set of stairs next to his post and proceeded to go toward the front gate to meet the assailants head on. He had his tusted long sword that had been given to him by his father, who had been an adventurer in his own time. William ran to the master vampire and did a swift upward thrust, the magic of the blade actually pierced the vampire and the creature let out a horrible scream that made all living beings that heard it cower in fear. William steadied himself for another attack but was soon attacked from behind and flanked by the fledgling vampires under the masters control. He fell to thier attacks and was drained of his blood. The master, however, was angered at the impudence of such a lowly mortal creature daring to strike him so he chose not to kill the man but to make him a slave. More powerful guards and mages showed up and drove the master vampire away and killed two of his fledglings in the process. No one recovered the body of William ,however, and so it came to be that on the third night after the new moon that William rose into unlife. Not too long after William rose he found that he was under the control of the master vampire, the one that had killed him. It took five years of control by the vampire before William finally came up with an idea about how to escape. He started killing people in small towns, trying to spread the word that a vampire existed nearby. His attempts succeeded and soon an adventuring group was found to thwart the evil that had been killing the people. The adventurer's followed a trail that William had set up himself, one that lead back to his master. The master found out about the betrayal but only mere moments before the adventurer's broke into his lair. The battle that ensued was a fierce one. The master vampire killed three of the six adventurer's before he was taken down, his heart staked, his head cut off and his body covered in holy water. The adventurer's didn't want to take any chances so they did all of this to the master vampire and their fallen companions, dragging their bodies into the morning sun to complete their deaths. William was freed on that night and gained full use of his vampiric powers. The realization of them turned him utterly evil and heartless. He killed and drank massively, gourging upon blood. It was upon returning to his lair one night that the tendrils of mist that surround the demiplane of dread curled about his body, enveloping him in their white, opague embrace. William walked farthur into the mist and could see nothing. He was almost to panic when the mist started to recede and he found himself standing next to a sea.
