The scene opens on the dark landscape of Drusilla’s dreams, the scene pans over the cemetery which exists there. There is a fresh grave on the landscape, with two names engraved on it, “innocence” and “superego”. The soil next to the stone still seems fresh, and the pile has not been exposed to gravity long enough for the tell tale fresh grave look. The frame moves up and the shadowy figure that had visited Drusilla in her hotel room can be seen lamenting the fresh grave.

Figure: Drusilla, what have you let happen?

There’s a chair in my head
On which I used to sit
Took a pencil and I wrote
The following on it

The Figure walks through the cemetery and finds the first fragment of Drusilla’s shattered psyche, the Drusilla as she was meant to be. She is sitting under the old dead tree within the cemetery, her knees curled up underneath her chin and shaking slightly.

The Figure bends down to her level and places his hand gently on her shoulder,

Figure: Drusilla, what happened here?

Drusilla looks up at the Figure, then back down at the ground her eyes showing fixed signs of disbelief.

Drusilla: She killed her…

The Figure moves his hand from her shoulder to underneath her chin and slowly lifts it to face him,

Drusilla: I should have known you would come sooner or later, but there is nothing that you can do, we’re incomplete without her, doomed to stay in here forever.

Figure: You know that’s not true.

Drusilla looks up at him with tears welling up in her eyes,

Drusilla: Do I?

Now there’s a key
Where my wonderful mouth used to be
Dig it up and throw it at me
Dig it up and throw it at me

The Figure looks her dead in the eyes, matching his blue eyes to her green.

Figure: You existed long before the others, and can exist without them.

Drusilla: But, they’ve been here as long as she was gone, I don’t think that I can, and I don’t think that they would let me.

The Figure looks at Drusilla with disappointment, and decides to try to find the others. With a sigh he stands back up and continues through the dark and desolate landscape of Drusilla’s mind.

He doesn’t get to far out of the cemetery when he encounters the Distant Drusilla, standing in an opening looking up at the sky. He doesn’t say a word when she begins to speak,

Distant Drusilla: Why Guardian, it took you quite some time to reach us.

The Figure stops and stands an arms reach away from Drusilla’s Distant persona.

Figure: I thought this was something that you could have worked through on your own.

The Distant Drusilla scoffs at him and takes a step forward,

Distant Drusilla: Now, now you should have known better than that.

The Figure gives her a half-smile and a look of subtle confusion,

Figure: Is that so?

Distant Drusilla: Of course.

Dig it up and throw it at me
Dig it up and throw it at me

Figure: And why is that?

Distant Drusilla: You have known for some time that we have fought since our inception, and now that our fighting has escalated to death, do you think that any of us here know how to work without the others? I know that our other persona over there cannot stop blaming herself, she created us and this is what has become of it. Just like our dear sister.

Figure: You mean Alice?

Distant Drusilla: Of course, this is all because of her, or possibly all about her. Frankly I forgot.

Figure: Of course you have. Can you tell me anything at all?

The Distant persona smiles,

Distant Drusilla: Of course I can.

She pauses for a moment seemingly to consider what she is about to say next.

Distant Drusilla: You should have stayed.

The figure seems surprised at he words,

Figure: What do you mean?

Distant Drusilla: You shouldn’t have let the others push you away, you should have stayed, fixed us, helped to make us whole again.

The figure, still shadowed looks down at her solemnly,

Figure: I had no idea that things would get this bad. I’m sorry Drusilla, but the others made it clear that they did not want my help.

Where can I run to?
Where can I hide?
Who will I turn to?
Now I’m in a virgin state of mind.

Distant Drusilla: You and I both know the difference between want and need. They may not have wanted your help, but we all needed it, and you abandoned us, left us to our own vices, and look how it turned out.

The Figure sighs knowing that there is some truth to her words.

Figure: I’m sorry that I let you down.

Distant Drusilla: It’s not me you should be apologising to.

The Figure nods and walks back towards the cemetery, but is stopped by the Stronger Persona.

Strong Drusilla: Well, well, well, the Guardian finally decides to pay us a visit, what took you?

The Figure crosses his arms defensively,

Figure: Do you really have to ask?

The Stronger persona mirrors the figures stance, with her arms crossed as well.

Strong Drusilla: Let me guess… you in your infinite knowledge thought that this was something that we needed to work out on our own, and only came because dear Seth asked you to?

Figure: More or less. Now correct me if I’m wrong, you seem upset that I didn’t come sooner.

Strong Drusilla: Or, maybe I’m upset that you bothered to come at all.

Figure: Touché.

The Strong persona sighs,

Strong Drusilla: Well since you’re here maybe you can talk some sense into her.

She points to the Drusilla that is sitting under the tree,

Strong Drusilla: She’s the one keeping us like this.

Got a knife to disengage,
The voids that I can’t bear,
To cut out the words I’ve got written
On my chair, Like:

Figure: How is she doing that?

Strong Drusilla: Don’t ask me, I’ve tried to get out, and, as you can see, I’m still here.

Figure: And what makes you think that you deserve to go out there, as the others tell me you are the reason all of this happened. Betraying your other halves and even resorting to killing one.

The Stronger persona gets defensive, she raises her shoulders as if getting ready to strike the figure in the shadows,

Strong Drusilla: And there you go again! Speaking out of turn on things that you don’t understand. She created me so that I could deal with the world outside, the world that she wanted to escape from, ever since she killed her sister.

Figure: You and I both know that’s not how it happened.

Strong Drusilla: Yeah? Well try telling her that, she’s just as stubborn as you are.

The Stronger persona turns on her heels and storms off. The Figure sighs and continues back to the Drusilla who had been sitting under the tree. He reaches her, and finds her in the same position and mindset as she was when he had left her.

Do you think I’m sexy?
Do you think I really care?

Figure: Drusilla, you know that I’m here to help you through this.

Drusilla: What could you possibly do to help me? You left me in that place! You let that strong bitch push you away! What can you possibly hope to do to help me?

Figure: I’m here now, let me help you.

Drusilla: But you are already too late, there’s nothing that can be done now.

Figure: That’s not true.

Drusilla: But she’s dead, I needed her.

Figure: You don’t, that’s what I’ve been trying to help you to understand for a while now. You don’t need any of them. They are no more than figments of your imagination.

Drusilla: That’s not true, they are all I have.

Figure: What do you mean?

Drusilla looks up at him with stern eyes,

Can I burn the mazes I grow?
Can I? I don’t think so.

Drusilla: They are the only ones who stayed, after Alice left, after you left, and after Darion left. They were always there with me.

Figure: And you think that no-one else will stay with you because?

Drusilla: Because of them!

Figure: Alright, you are using some very convoluted logic here… you want to keep what has been pushing all who you loved away? And you want to keep them because they stay and push the others away?

Drusilla: You wouldn’t understand.

Figure: try me.

Drusilla: As headstrong as they are sometimes, they really do want what’s best for me.

Figure: Your still not convincing me.

Drusilla: I told you that you wouldn’t understand. They have been there for me ever since I killed my sister.

The Figure sits down next to her,

Figure: You have to stop thinking like that, you did not kill your sister. None of that was your fault.

Drusilla: are you sure about that?

Figure: Absolutely.

Drusilla thinks back to the night her sister died. They had gone to Samantha’s graduation party; there was plenty of alcohol but neither of them decided to indulge, knowing that they would have to drive home early. Well getting home early was the plan, until Drusilla spotted Jason, her sister’s ex boyfriend and had a short conversation with him. She eventually went to speak with Alice regarding what had happened between her and Jason, and convinced her sister to give him another chance. Alice and Jason made up that night, which is what took them so long. It was well passed 1am before the girls left the party.

Can I burn the mazes I grow?
Can I? I don’t think so.

Drusilla’s eyes well up with tears,

Drusilla: If I hadn’t convinced her to make up with her ex we wouldn’t have been on that road so late.

Figure: And is there any way that you could have known what would happen?

Drusilla: No, but it doesn’t make it and less my fault.

Figure: You and I both know that is not true. You were only trying to help her; you had the best of intentions.

Drusilla: The road to Hell is paved with those.

Figure: And the road to redemption is paved with the acceptance of the intentions we could not control.

Drusilla: Redemption, is that what you think I need?

Figure: I think that you think that you need it, but it is somehow out of reach.

Drusilla sighs,

Drusilla: How is it that you are always right?

The figure smiles at her,

Figure: I’ve known you too long to be wrong.

Drusilla returns his smile,

Drusilla: I suppose your right. What took you so long anyway?

Figure: Honestly, I thought that you would have been able to work this out for yourself. Then Seth came to me in a panic.

Drusilla: Seth did?

Figure: Of course, he has barely left your side since you were admitted into the hospital. He really loves you.

Drusilla: He really does doesn’t he?

Figure: He wants you to come back to him.

Drusilla starts to sob slightly,

Drusilla: I’m not sure if I can face him, he knows all about Alice and me.

The figure uses a single finger to lift her chin up so that she can look into his eyes,

Figure: None of that matters to him. If anything it just makes him love you more.

Drusilla: You mean it makes him pity me.

Where can I run to?
Where can I hide?
Who will I turn to?
Now I'm in a virgin state of mind

Figure: No, he does not have any pity for you, only love.

Drusilla wipes her eyes,

Drusilla: If you keep saying that, I might start to believe it.

Figure: Good, you should, because he does. He asked me to come here knowing what the price might be.

Drusilla: Price? Since when do you charge for your services?

Figure: Not that kind of price, to reach you I needed an anchor, remember it’s all about the balance.

Drusilla: An anchor? What does that mean?

Figure: He may be putting his own life on the line for you.

Drusilla’s eyes flare with anger as she looks away from the figure,

Drusilla: Why would you let him do that?!

Figure: He wanted to help you to find your way back.

Drusilla: Well I’m not lost, I clearly know where I am.

Figure: Drusilla, you are hiding! You decided to hide from the truth, from who you really should be! You may not be lost, but you need help getting back.

Drusilla: I don’t need any help, I like it here.

Figure: Your lying Drusilla, you are hiding from a world that you forgot how to deal with a long time ago.

Now I’m in a virgin state of mind

Drusilla takes a deep breath to contain herself,

Drusilla: You’re right, what do I have to do?

The figure holds out his hand for her,

Figure: Take my hand, close your eyes and take a deep breath.

Drusilla cautiously takes the figures hand takes a deep breath and closes her eyes. There is a bright flash of light and Drusilla begins to open her eyes in the hospital, and the first thing that she sees are the eyes of her lover Seth looking down on her.

Drusilla: Seth?

Now I’m in a virgin state of mind.

Fade to Black.
