This is a song I wrote when I first returned to Wyoming about a guy I used to somewhat kind of look up too. The guy on the other side of the track from me... I remember him being so richy back in high school... today I still see him every so often and I find it a shame that now he walks the same track that I used to walk... Even though I walked mine by choice I wonder if his walk is by choice... I call him robby to protect his identity... and someday... maybe he will hear my message... not that its not too late... but maybe I can reach the young Robby of today... the clean cut kid playing on our highschool team... Robby out in the parks... Robby in the newspaper... Robby being crowned prom king... Robby the one whos parents are proud of...

ROBBY

(I TOOK ONE STEP OVER THE LINE)

Robby was a richly boy who had life all figured out
He just threw the ball and they all would scream and shout
Such a clean cut young man with life offering all there was
He never had to worry he was supported with everything he does
we held him back with a 4 inch blade while he held us with society
Yea Robby I knew all my life it would end up being you and me
As the years went by I fought to live on the razors edge
my choice and we clashed where ever each other ever met
yea I had my respect but didn't listen when you told me what to do
It might seem the way to live but for me I wanted something new
I held my want of vengeance but I knew it would never come
for society was on your side and my life was nothing but a loaded gun
Some day we would meet again while you had it all
I would take what I had and yea I would take your fall

(CC1)
yea buddy
"I Took One Step Over The Line"
"compared to you I was never close behind"
yea buddy
"I Took One Step Over The Line"
"compared to you I was never close behind"

All them years went by and I wondered about our prom king
with an unbreakable crown and I with just the happy thing
because I choose to live my life full and pay my price now
maybe someday I would make a rise but no one would take a bow
Times have changed but what I have I earned with my pride
Never had anything I kept and had nothing I could hide
When I came back to you I found you on your knees
it was a shock but I can't help you with your screams
For I see life was cruel to you for you never had to fight
Like innocents slaughtered there is no more guiding light
For I refuse to return to what you have later became
For today as I stand I see in your eyes nothing but shame
Oh Robby I recognize those lines in your face and the hole in your arm
You say my words I used to say even with the same amount of charm

(Repeat CC1)

I guess I am glad to have never ate cookies from that jar
and I am glad I stayed away and only watched from afar
Robby for me that lifestyle was only something of a sensation
For you misunderstood my words for you it became and addiction
I guess we all had our drugs yours was fame and all the attention
you never controlled your drug and now it became your affliction
For when it all crumbled down you had nothing more then I
Forgive me Robby because this subject brings a tear to my eye
For now you hold that blade I held you away something I know well
Now you understand the full meaning of living in hell
for now we see each other eye to eye I must drop my fist
cuz if I swing now I know I would only shoot and miss
Young Robby everything seems to change with the time
Damnit Robby I was there and you should have never crossed that line

(Repeat CC1)

Today I see Robby walking the street I see you everywhere
I see you holding that football without even a modest care
You laugh at my leather but I vision your lettermens jacket
I see the things you point and the things you laugh at
Be careful Robby of how much that drug you take in
for its far more dangerous now then it was then
Young Robby your story is no different then mine
and the laughing cheers are all on borrowed time
The higher you live on the world the farther the fall
its one thing to live high profile then to stand tall
we all like to say this story is not true not this time
Young Robby you don't have to step to fall over that line
