Upclose & Personal : Jack of All Trades

Chauffeur? Try chauffeur, informant , messenger, accomplice, associate, handyman , companion, confidante, advisor and friend. (he probably even makes one heck of a good cup of coffee!) There are certainly more words that one can come up withto describe Grognard here, and anything less will be doing him great injustice.

Grognard is an indispensable detail in all of Lupin's exploits ~ be it designated driver for Lupin's dramatic exits, trailing bad guys, checking up on the latest news, disguising himself as Lupin even... In fact, his reputation is almost as well known among the French Police as Lupin's himself, ( and it's probably only because Lupin had a head start before him! ;) Lupin may be his "Boss", but addressing him as such is as far as their employer-employee relationship goes. Lupin's relationship with Grognard is based on mutual respect and equal status, and Grognard like a true friend, will not hesitate to be blunt when he feels that their relationship has been compromised.

Grognard is extremely particular when it comes to precision and timing. As Lupin has so aptly put it: "Patience isn't one of Grognard's better virtues." He is Lupin's most reliable synchronized watch, and it has never needed fine tuning! Grognard is also your spare-time inventor on the side. After all, how did you think the Cord could have such a powerful engine to fly over a cliff? Or the rope that shoots out of Lupin's cane? Grognard's handiwork is everywhere! it would seem that Grognard likes to keep himself busy, and with Lupin around, that shouldn't be too hard to do!

Next to Lupin, Grognard may come across as being your strait-laced big brother whereas Arsne is your footloose fancy free dare devil but they compliment each other perfectly: Grognard provides the stable and reliable pillar of support to keep our gentleman from straying too far, and Lupin brings out Grognard'sfun side ( not that Grognard isn't fun to be with ). But in the end, they are still two sides of the same coin, so different, yet so alike in many ways. And being more grounded doesn't mean that Grognard doesn't know how to live on the wild side... Just catch him behind the wheel someday! Burn rubber baby!
