Sondra

Impressed at Sidra Weyr

Sondra is aged 15 Turns. Her health is normal, she has slightly above average height, and is of average build. Her skin is a medium olive tan, while her curly hair is a light platinum blond and goes to her lower back. Her eyes are a light golden brown colour. Her appearance is very plain and ordinary.

She is the daughter of two weyrmated dragonriders, and like most dragonrider offspring, was fostered out to a foster mother in the Weyr. Her relationship with her biological parents is distant since she hardly sees them. She is much closer to her foster mother and her foster-siblings, treating them as her real family although they are unrelated.

Her personality is outgoing and social, as well as curious and inquisitive. She is very friendly and talkative when meeting other people, even strangers. She loves meeting people at crowded places and social gatherings. However, she has a quick temper if angered although she is usually warm and pleasant.

Story

Today was a Gather day, so all the Weyr children were let off early from their duties to attend the Gather. Sondra naturally was one of them. She was feeling excited and joyous, but not only because she could join in all the activities held at the Gather, and feast her eyes on the goods being sold. More than that, she loved the crowds at every Gather, watching the people and talking with them.

With her green firelizard Gizuy adorning her shoulder and wearing her favourite dress, Sondra ran towards the big field where the Gather was being held. It was late evening, and most of the local residents, from Weyrfolk to Crafters to Holders, were already crowding the field.

Gizuy squawked loudly and looked up as group of firelizards flew overhead. "Do you want to join them?" Sondra asked, smiling. "I forgot that you'd like to join your friends too. Go on, then." The green firelizard immediately took off, chasing the other firelizards.

Sondra watched her pet leave, then headed towards the Gather stalls. She had no Marks with her, since Weyrfolk lived on tithes, rather than trading like Crafters or Holders. Browsing among the stalls, she spotted so many things she wanted. Clothes, jewellery, even a plush toy firelizard. Still, nothing would change the fact that she had no Marks to buy them.

Turning away from the stalls, Sondra decided to just sit on a bench, quietly listen to the Harpers play and watch the people dancing, chatting and buying. She kept an eye out for interesting-looking strangers, and soon spotted one. A dragonrider, from his attire, looking rather lost.

Looks interesting, maybe he needs a guide, Sondra thought, and decided to go over and introduce herself.

"Good evening. I noticed that you seem rather lost. My name's Sondra, and would you like me to show you around?" she asked with a smile.

"Well, actually I'm not here for the Gather, just looking around. But thanks for offering to help," he replied.

Sondra shrugged and said, "It's all right, but since we've met, I'd really like to know your name and Weyr, since I don't recognise your badge."

"I'm Res, rider of brown Kraiteth, and Head Searchrider from Sidra Weyr," he said.

"And I'm Sondra, just a lowly Weyrbrat. I'm pleased to meet you," she replied cheerfully. "So, if you're not here for the Gather, you must be Searching, right?"

"Absolutely right. I've had no luck so far, though. Everyone's too busy having fun to notice a lone Searchrider," R'es sighed.

"I did notice you," Sondra said.

"I'm surprised. Weren't you busy with other things?" R'es asked.

"Not really. I always keep an eye out for newcomers. I love meeting other people like you," Sondra explained.

"Well then, would you like to meet my Kraiteth?" asked R'es.

"Of course I would," Sondra answered.

She followed the Searchrider some distance outside the Gather field, where Kraiteth was waiting.

"Pleased to meet you, Kraiteth," Sondra greeted the dragon politely.

"Kraiteth is happy to meet you too, and he even says you have dragonrider potential," R'es said.

"Really? Does that mean I've been Searched?" Sondra asked.

"Well, you do seem rather young. How old are you?" R'es asked a question in return.

"I'm fifteen," Sondra replied.

"That's a bit too young," R'es commented.

"I'll be sixteen in three months, and I'm Weyrbred. I'm sure I can be a candidate," Sondra argued.

"All right, then. I can't find anyone else anyway," R'es said. "Come on then, I'll take you to Sidra Weyr."

"Thank you. I'll just call my flit back, and could you stop by my home first so I can pack my things?" she asked, while summoning Gizuy to her. The green flit appeared and landed on her shoulder as she finished speaking.

"Definitely. Come, get on Kraiteth so we can be on our way," R'es replied, helping her mount the brown dragon.
