There will be recipes, stories, and photography.

Some of the stories you see on my blog will be true. Some will be pure fiction. I'll never tell you which is which, leaving you to decide that, but I will say that if some of the stories seem surreal, sometimes so does reality. None of these stories will be told from an angelic point of view, by an omniscent narrator. You'll always hear them filtered through a character's point of view. Sometimes, that character will be me; usually, it will not. More often, real life stories will be told from the point of view of somebody who related that story to me, and sometimes a story will be part reality and part fiction, a real story that I've embellished on.

The backstory, the "real" events behind a piece of fiction or semi-fiction I give you - the story that you'll never see - is often going to be set in a world that isn't quite the world as I see it. The supernatural is more aggressively present in it, than I believe it would be in reality, but not so much so that it takes you out of the 21st century. There will be no zombies walking around, no demons bursting out of the ground or sorcerers throwing lightning bolts. There will just be a sense that something isn't quite right, that the dice aren't rolling as they should, that somewhere off in the corner of your eye you saw something that you're not sure was really there, like you're just at the edge of reality. Surrealism verging on Magical Realism, perhaps.

Having given myself that build up, now I'll now get to see whether or not I'll ever be able to live up to it. Certainly, this is going to take a lot of work on my part. At present, fiction writing is something that I'm learning to do, and I have enough sense to start slowly, writing observation based pieces that are a lot more reality based than the fiction of the sort I have intended to create for this blog, eventually. Like an artist learning to paint in a representational manner before one starts to study Dali, so his melting clocks really look like clocks that are melting, and not cartoons, only I'll be painting, using words instead of brushstrokes.

Or at least trying to.

I won't, as I said, be ready to try that for a while, but I'm not going to keep the site and any readership waiting until then.

On my own site and blog, there will be photography and photomanipulation (a lot more of the latter than the former at first), all shooting done at night, when no sign of the sun is to be found in the sky, at all. More photomanipulation in the beginning, because Night Photography is not something I've done a lot of, and because without a group to go hiking with, being on the street with a tripod and a real camera, late a night in Chicago, is just not a good idea. One looks like an easy target. So, instead I'll be using homemade pinhole cameras, one shots and other items that I could lose to a mugger without being financially devastated by the loss. Photomanipulation can be much more forgiving of out of focus shots than is true, undoctored photography, so expect to see some Adobe.

Where to, next? You'll find links back to this site from all of these locations, and ring code at each other than Twitter, where adding such code isn't possible. Yet.
