GABO Lives On

4 years have gone!!!

With Heavy Hearts we continue to remember our friend who went to the great beyond in service to humanity. Jc Gabriel Onu (Gabo) the Y2K President of Ikoyi Junior Chamber,  died in the service to Humanity. He was crushed by a car driving without Headlights at about 10.30pm on the 29th June, 2000 as he was concluding the rescue of a motor accident victim.

Gabo lived and died as a Jaycee. We ask God to continue to give us the strength to remember him in our decisions concerning service to humanity and institute a legacy in his name as we declare June 29th every year a "Jc Gabriel ONU Safe  Driving Day" in Honour  of this outstanding member of our NOM. God Almighty will continue to grant his wife and daughter the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss

Biography

Late Gabriel Iheukwumere ONU was born in Lagos on December 5th, 1964. He was the third child of the late Chief Nwakama Wafor ONU and Mrs. Anthonia C. Onu.

He was educated at the Federal Government College, Azare in Bauchi State of Nigeria and the University of Benin, Benin-city, Nigeria where graduated in Law. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992.

After his call to bar, he quickly went into private business and eventually set up Ego Group Ltd. He was the Chief Executive of the group until his untimely death.

Gabo married his hearthrob, former Miss Evelyn Orumwense, also a Lawyer in 1995 and they have a daughter, Uloma.

Gabo participated in various socio-cultural activities but he especially dedicated his energy to the ideals of the Junior Chamber International, first as a member of UNIBEN Jaycees and now, the Ikoyi Junior Chamber and was the LOM President at the time of his transition to the great beyond.

He was a quiet, easy going, kind and friendly man who believed in the collective good of all.  Always willing to give or share his possessions with others especially his Junior Chamber friends. When death came knocking, Gabo was giving a needed helping hand to an accident victim unknown to him previously. The man he helped lived, but Gabo died and lives in our hearts!!

We miss him greatly as our Y2K NATCON showed that his presence would have influenced events a great deal. Our consolation is that God will reward him for being found doing good when his earthly course came to an end.

Gabo, Mr. President, Rest in Peace.
