Spectacle was always important in the Toy theatre, well with little paper people and child actors reading the dialogue badly you had to have something to look at, and for the boys of course flames and swords and kensington gore were of great appeal, girls would probably have to play with dolls.
This is a scene from Mary the maid of the inn with a ship on fire against a rather colourful sky. Again Bryce is a big help here by directing a light right at the heart of the fire it really brings it to life. |
