New Imperial Federation Second Fleet

Penitentiary and Interrogation Naval Group (PING)

Fleet Commander: Thrawn's Hand
Task Force Commander: Thrawn's Hand
Headquarters: Elrood, Glythe Sector
Capital Ships: 8
Starfighter Squadrons: 0
Imperial Troopers: 7,000
Holding Cells: 1,661,000
Task Force Directive: The prison fleet serves as a transport of prisoners of all kinds as well as holding facilities. All prisoners are carbon frozen and stacked at a rate of 6 per metric ton, thanks to an ingenious implementation of exsisting technology. They are continuously reeducated into troops servicing the NIF by shipboard computers connected directly to their minds via imprinting while under hibernation.

Invincible-class Cruiser

  • Outcast

This class of ships are often confused with the much later Republic dreadnaught made by Rendili, but it is not the same design. The Invincible-class is 3000 years old, at the time one of the largest battle cruisers in the Old Republic fleet. They were the prime warships of their day, but was rendered obsolete a few decades later by smaller, more efficient ship types. Today, they have been modernized enough to still be used against pirates by the CSA. One third of the ship is filled by the sublight engines, but it is still very slow compared to modern ships. The Outcast, serving for a while as the flagship of TF Vigilant, was renamed and recommissioned into PING as its new flagship.

Dreadnaught-class cruisers

  • Misfit

The Dreadnaught was originally designed and commissioned by the Old Republic. At their prime time, they were the largest warships in service. Today they barely fit the class of medium cruisers. The standard Dreadnaught in the Imperial Navy is not significantly different from the original used in the Old Republic's. The ship maintains its weaponry. Even after refitting, this ship's sublight speed barely matches the speed of the Victory I-class Star Destroyer and still requires an extremely large crew. The reason for the large crew was that this ship made little use or no use of droid assistance. The Empire was able to add flight decks in its dreadnaughts to allow 12 fighters as well as 4 shuttlecraft onboard. Although sluggish, it remains a powerful ship in use in both the Imperial and the New Republic navies. The Misfit is aptly named, it was considered wrecked beyond repair for ever serving in front line duty again, but it came back to life as a prison ship. It now carries the misfits of the New Order. The ships is under heavy automation with slaved circuits, bringing down the crew number to a minimal. Nearly all of the crew quarters were converted into carbon-freezing and reeducational facilities. All weapons were removed, and a reactor self-destruct is available to the captain in case of emergency. The Misfit holds a constant number of "live" prisoners awaiting to be carbon frozen, as well as a number of reeducated troops awaiting deployment.

Action VI-class Bulk Transports

  • BT-1
  • BT-2
  • BT-3

CEC's Action series of transports is one of the smaller types of bulk freighters; these ships carry only a fraction of the cargo of other such freighters. As a result, Action transports are very inexpensive, and can be found throughout the galaxy in the ownership of private individuals and freelance traders. The Action V is the most popular of the series; it is old enough that it is already as widespread as its predecessors, but new enough that it has not yet been rendered outdated. This ship can hold an astounding 90,000 metric tonnes of cargo for a mere three times the cost of a Gallofree Medium Transport. They require a dedicated crew of 10, and have no passenger facilities. It typically operates in convoys or in well patrolled areas of space, being practically helpless in a fight, so vulnerable that pirates call them "Inaction" freighters.

SP-627 class Transports

  • MT-1
  • MT-2
  • MT-3

The Gallofree Yards Medium Transport can hold 19,000 metric tonnes of any type of cargo. It is extensively used by the rebels to transport supplies, equipment and troops. Some have been modified to be fuel tankers for long range fighter missions or for smaller ships. The Rebels can fit sealed passenger pods in the cargo hold to transport their personnel. The hull of these transports are specially coated, heavy armour plating designed to absorb most casual sensor scans and thus unfortunately prevents long range Imperial scans from detecting these transports. The close-range countermeasure systems are not foolproof and vary in effectiveness. The hull bristles with the antennas and mechanism clusters of the enhanced sensor, navigation and communication systems. The transport's outer hull is like a thick shell with the interior entirely open for cargo. The cargo is transported in standard modular cargo pods which greatly speeds up loading and unloading procedures. It has three primary and six secondary drive engines. The MT has always been prone to breakdown and tends to spend as much time in repair bays as well in space.
