Why National Tradition?

I know Christmas and stuff like that are fun to look forward to . . . mainly because you get gifts. But I think tis hypocritical to celebrate the birth of Jesus when you don't believe in Him. +O_o' Same with the other religious holidays. You can always make up your own holidays. Like celebrate your anniversary meeting one of your friends, and have a party for that. I like to celebrate my anime anniversaries. *:-D Just because the whole United States celebrates a holiday doesn't mean you have to. And it definately doesn't mean you have to have turkey every Thanksgiving!

Traditions are kool . . . when they belong to an individual family. When tis the tradition of a whole country, tis stupid to follow it. For example, having fondue (sp?) every New Year's Eve is an individual family tradition. Having turkey on Thanksgiving is a National Tradition. When I tell people I had ham instead of turkey on Thanksgiving, people look at me like I'm crazy and question it. I never do those national tradition things, because I think tis stupid to do something that everyone else does just because the calendar says tis time to do it. National traditions leave no room for creativity. Create your own tradition and pass it along through the family. Don't live by the traditions your family had no part in creating. There's no fun in that, and no point in carrying out the tradition.
