Anime Movies/OAVs/OVAs

OAV and OVA are pretty much the same; they mean Original Animation Video or Original Video Animation. Whatever floats your boat. I like to call them ovas (oh-vahs), hehe, because I don't like to pronounce all those sylables (sp?). Anyway, those things are movies to an anime that have nothing to do what-so-ever with the anime itself. But to me, it seems just like a regular movie, and I don't know why there is a difference. You could probably try to tell me, if you want to waste your time, but I doubt I will understand, because people have tried to tell me before, and I didn't get it. I mean, the Sailor Moon movies were just called movies, but they had nothing to do with the regular anime, so . . . yeah. That's why I have ovas and movies all in one list. They aren't separated alphabetically because there aren't as many of them as there are anime and manga.

*08th Mobile Suit Team = Gundam OAV that came out in 1996.

*Adolescence of Utena = movie of Revolutionary Girl Utena

*Akira = It is about people with this rare gene called the Akira Gene (named after this little boy who was found to have the gene first). There are only four people with the gene (the little boy was killed and his body and brain was studied in the name of science). The story follows one of them, Tetsuo, the only one who isn't in a gov't compound being studied (compared to the other three, he's the only one who looks normal). Anyhow, he goes crazy, his friend whose name I forget even though he's the main character, is trying to find him before the gov't does, and basically all hell breaks loose in Tokyo. This anime is very long (2 and a half hrs), but is very very good. It's loaded with symbolism, though, so be prepared to ask a ton of questions at the end.

*Aquarian Age Movie = Four women are charged with protecting Earth in this anime adventure based on the popular Japanese card game. Mayumi, the daughter of the E.G.O. leader, suddenly learns she has incredible powers and is convinced by a mysterious boy that she must help protect the world. Along with warriors from the Arayashiki, Wiz-Dom and Darklore factions, she must fight against an evil empire attempting to conquer the universe by resurrecting dead soldiers.

*Area 88 = Young Shin Kazama fell in love with his boss's daughter, Ryoko, who happened to be the same girl Shin's best friend, Kazaki, liked. Ryoko fell in love with Shin too. Kanzaki tricked Shin into signing a contract into the Asran Foreign Legion, so that Shin would be forced to leave, and Kanzaki would get Ryoko all to himself. Shin was taken by the Asran Foreign Legion guys right after he signed the contract, so he didn't even get to say goodbye to Ryoko. There are only three ways to leave Asran's Area 88: to serve time there for three years, to earn $1.5 million from shooting down enough enemy planes, or to desert (run away). Shin wants to get back home to Ryoko in Japan as soon as he can, but that proves to be more difficult than he thought. A very serious, realistic, and sad anime; don't expect a happy ending.

*Bishoujo Senshi [Pretty Soldier] Sailor Moon R Movie = an alien named Fiore, who looks like Ail, used to be Mamoru's childhood friend. They lived in the same orphanage (sp?). Usagi had given Mamoru a red rose. Mamoru gave that flower to Fiore as a going away gift. Fiore had disappeared back to wherever he came from. But now he came back to see Mamoru. He sees that Usagi is his girlfriend, and gets jealous. A flower called Kisenian (I think that's spelled correctly) takes advantage of his vulnerablness (sp?) and turns him evil. Fiore kidnaps Mamoru, and the Soldiers have to rescue him. Chibi-Usa and the cats stay behind. Sailor Moon uses all her power to try to defeat Fiore. He kills her, but later he becomes good again and brings her back to life by creating the flower of love or something when Mamoru kisses her. He became good by going back to the past and seeing that Usagi was the one who gave Mamoru the flower which he gave to Fiore; Fiore realized that Usagi wasn't the enemy -- Kisenian was; so he used that same flower to bring Usagi back to life.

*Bishoujo Senshi [Pretty Soldier] Sailor Moon S(uper) Movie: Hearts in Ice = basicly about Luna and her love for a scientist who rescued her from getting ran/run over by a car. His name is Oozora Kakeru. He had a girlfriend whose name started with an H (Himeko?), but she didn't have the same opinions as him, so he broke up with her. While looking at the sky, he thought he discovered a new comet or something, but it was really a crystal which an ice queen named Princess Snow Kaguya wanted. Kakeru kept the crystal in his bedroom. Every once and awhile, it would glow red, and he would feel pain in his chest. Kaguya eventually finds the crystal in Kakeru's room. Long ago, Snow Queen Kaguya tried to invade Earth, but a great light forced her back. Ever since then she has been stuck on a long journey through space where all she did was think about how and when she would return to claim Earth as her own. That crystal was sent disguised as a comet to Earth. Once Kaguya finds the crystal she will be able to fulfill her plan to cover the Earth in ice, sucking away all life energy and instill permanent winter. When a sudden snow storm hits the town, the Sailor Senshi know something is wrong. Usagi finds out about Luna's love for Kakeru. The Sailor Soldiers (the outers help too, but not Saturn) kill Kaguya and her henchmen, the snow dancers. (By the way, since I think this movie is supposed to be taking place in the middle of the series, Sailor Moon has the Holy Grail still to help her transform into a Super Sailor.) At the end of the fight, Sailor Moon wishes that Luna be turned into a human, because that was what Luna wanted. Moon's wish was granted; Luna became human and took Kakeru with her to see Earth from space, just like he always wanted. Kakeru knew the human was Luna by the yellow bow that he had tied around her neck in the beginning. Later he woke up, from what seemed to be a dream. He got back together with Himeko or whatever her name was.

*Bishoujo Senshi [Pretty Soldier] Sailor Moon Super S(enshi[oldiers]) Movie: The Magical Dream Vortex = All over the world, children started to disappear in the middle of the night. Meanwhile, Chibi-Usa puts her heart into baking cookies for Mamoru, but on the way to give them to him, she meets a mysterious boy, Peruru. Chibi-Usa becomes friends with him and gives him her cookies instead. That night, Usagi and the Sailor Soldiers follow a sleep-walking Chibi-Usa and other children to a strange ship that flies away with them. With help from Peruru, the Sailor Soldiers (the outers help too, but not Saturn) chase the ship to the fortress in the sky where the evil Badiyanu awaits. Her goal was to put everyone from Earth asleep, so they could be dreaming forever, and inturn be happy forever. But the Sailor Soldiers knew that happiness wasn't supposed to be like that (each one of the Senshi had their own memories for examples); it was supposed to be earned or something; without the bad, there is no good. They defeat her, and in the end Chibi-Usa kisses Peruru.

*Bishoujo Senshi [Pretty Soldier] Sailor Moon Special: Ami-chan's First Love = Ami gets a love letter from a boy in her grade who gets better grades than she does. Ami is jealous or something, and she goes crazy trying to study and beat him. Since she's so vulnerable, a monster comes and tries to take her energy or something. Mercury ends up saving the day by using an attack that is only seen in this movie. The boy turns out to be a boy who looks like Umino Gurio, only he has square glasses instead of round.

*Blood: The Last Vampire = On an American military base in Japan, a new kind of vampire emerges: Teropterids. They are monstrous shape-shifting creatures that can only be killed with special swords. A mysterious girl named Saya is the last "original," the only person capable of dealing with the menace of these monsters. Posing as a student at the base's school, Saya races to hunt down the beasts before they turn an ordinary Halloween bash into a bloody massacre.

*Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 = This is the same as the original Bubblegum Crisis only remade.

*CardCaptor Sakura Movie = Sakura and Tomoyo go to Hong Kong and meet Syaoran's family. While they're there, Sakura has a reoccuring dream of a woman surrounded by water. A woman in a well wants revenge on Clow Reed for sealing her away. In the past they were lovers; Clow Reed taught her magic, but she wanted to use it for evil purposes, so he sealed her. Now she's back and wants revenge, but he's dead.

*CardCaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card = a 53rd card that was locked away in Clow Reed's mansion gets released when the mansion disappears. This sealed card has all the negative power of all the postivie 52 cards combined. It has the power to destroy everything. It wants all the cards back from Sakura. In order to seal the card, Sakura has to give up her most precious feeling -- which is love for Syaoran. He ends up giving up his love for her. But it turns out that the card didn't take his feeling away from him after all. Sakura confesses her love for him.

*Chrono Trigger = Another game by Squaresoft. Crono and his friend, Lucca, have time adventures and end up saving the world by defeating lavos.

*Cleopatra DC = three OVA episodes -- two half hours made in 1989 and a third, 50 minutes long, from 1991; based on a manga series (Area 88) by Kaoru Shintani; A 16 year-old blonde girl named Cleopatra Corns emarks on improbable globe-trotting adventures, usually involving the rescue of damsels-in-distress even younger than she is. Cleopatra likes to wear 1980's fashion, yet has no romantic interests at all. Her closest sidekick is a tall, leggy brunette named Swen. All three episodes are complicated, but rushed -- all except the last one.

*Cowboy Bebop Movie = takes place between episodes 22 and 23 of the TV series; while Spike and the others are chasing down a bounty on a terrorist named Vincent, a woman named Electra becomes involved.

*Dancer in the Dark = sad

*Digimon: The Movie = a 3 act film. The first act takes place several years before the TV series to explain the event that caused our heroes to become the Digidestined. Then it skips ahead to right after the first season, when evil Digimon attempt to take over the Internet. The thrid act of the movie happens sometime during the second season, taking the Digidestined to America to meet Wallace and his twin digimon. However, one of these twins is good and the other is evil, and the good Digimon, Terriermon, must actually Digivolve together with Agumon [Taichi's digimon] into the almighty Omegamon in order to defeat his evil twin.

*Fatal Fury OAV = I think it has two parts.

*Furi Kuri = one of Gainax's OAV series'.

*El Hazard: The Wanderers = OVA of El Hazard maybe. I'm very confused about the series, movie, and ova, so it might be the t.v. series?

*End of Evangelion = movie for Neon Genesis Evangelion; I don't think it has anything to do with the series; it's pretty far out (not in a good way), mostly because the people were drunk when they made it.

*Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children = A deadly disease and a band of brothers threaten to destroy the planet in this thrilling computer-animated sequel based on the popular video game. Now a recluse, ex-soldier Cloud Strife runs a delivery service from Tifa's bar, which also doubles as a safe-haven for children stricken with the lethal affliction. But Cloud and his friends are called back into action when the mysterious Kadaj and his brothers show up on the scene.

*Full Metal Alchemist The Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa = Picking up where the TV series ended, this full-length anime film follows the efforts of Alphonse and Edward Elric to restore the bodies they lost during their failed attempt to resurrect their mother. Little brother Alphonse dives deeper into alchemy to rescue Edward, who's been stripped of his powers and trapped in a parallel world. Unbeknownst to them, their reunion may be all that can stop a catastrophic war between the two dimensions.

*Green Legend Ran = Imagine Earth with no rain, no oceans, no greenergy. In this sci-fi anime film, two youths fight for survival in this futuristic environment after alien objects have transformed Earth into a desert. The Rodoist cult controls the meager water supply, and their opposing group is the Hazzard. A boy named Ran searches for the Hazzard leader, but his quest shifts when he tries to save his kidnapped love -- the silver-haired Ira.

*Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket = Gundam's first OAV series that came out in 1989.

*Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory = Gundam OAV that came out in 1991.

*Gundam Wing Endless Waltz = A year has passed since the creation of the new Earth government. The space colonists have begun the demilitarization process, beginning with the war machines known as mobile suits. With their mission completed, the Gundam pilots have decided to follow the path of the colonies and destroy their mobile suits. However, a new enemy appears, threatening to shatter this period of peace and prosperity. An unknown enemy has kidnapped Relena Peacecraft, Vice Foreign Minister of the new Earth government. In their search, Heero and his allies uncover a plot to wreak havoc upon the Earth. I think the enemy is a little girl who wants to rule Earth.

*Hauru no Ugoku Shiro (Howl's Moving Castle) = Sophie, a diligent teenage girl working in her family's hat shop, finds her life thrown into turmoil when she is literally swept off her feet by a handsome-but-mysterious wizard named Howl. This innocent encounter engages the vain and conniving Witch of the Waste, who transforms into a 90-year-old woman. Sophie's efforts to break the curse bring her to Howl's magical moving castle, where she befriends Markl, Howl's apprentice, and the hot-headed fire demon Calcifer. Her love and support have a major impact on Howl, who can be maddeningly self-indulgent and singularly noble: He defies royal orders to participate in a meaningless war and risks his life to bring peace to the kingdom.

*Inu-Yasha: Toki wo koeru omoi (Affections Touching Across Time) = Kagome, Inuyasha, Shippo, MIroku, and Sango battle against Menomaru, a part-insect, part-devil creature seaking to avenge the downfall of his father Hyoga, who's summoned by the magical Shikon Jewel. Apparently, Inuyasha's father squared off with Hyoga many moons ago, and now the creature's son is bent on wresting control of the land once again.

*Inu-Yasha Movie #2: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass = With their most formidable foe vanquished, Inu-Yasha and his comrades begin returning to their everyday lives. But their peace is fleeting as another adversary emerges: Kaguya, the self-proclaimed princess from the Moon of Legend, hatches a plot to plunge the world into an eternal night of the full moon. Inu-Yasha, Kagome, Miroku, Sango and Shippou must reunite to confront the new menace in this awesome anime tale.

*InuYasha movie #3: Swords of an Honorable Ruler = Untold years ago, the Great Dog Demon wielded the Three Swords of the Fang. When he died, he willed a sword to each of his sons, Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru, leaving the third sword, the hate-filled Sounga, locked away forever. But now, the Sounga's power has been reawakened, and the two bickering brothers must put away their sibling rivalry and face off against a force that could spell doom for all mankind.

*Inuyasha movie #4: Fire on the Mystic Island = A magical island known as Horai houses a group of half-demons living under the brutal rule of the Four War Gods -- the Shitoushin -- in this fourth installment of the popular anime story. Ai, a young half-demon who's escaped to try to help his people, returns to Horai with potential saviors Inu-Yasha, Sesshomaru and Kikyo in tow. But on the island, Inu-Yasha will face the powerful Shitoushin -- and the past he left behind a half-century ago.

*Kaze no Tairiku Movie = a group of people explore this place. I saw it recently, but I still forgot it. . . .

*Kiki's Delivery Service = When witches-in-training turn 13, they fly off to a city to start a business. Kiki flies to this place and lives above a bakery. It's her job to deliver cakes and stuff. A boy has a crush on her, and at first she doesn't like him. But later she grows to be friends with him, and together they save a blimp.

*Kira Kira Melody Gakuen [Academy] = a project that blurs the line between fiction and reality. Auditions were held for the over fifty female roles in the series though various events such as television shows. Then the girls selected are trained to be voice-actors, and through the process of training, the girls make appearances on radio and television shows, and sign and perform for music CDs. That's the reality -- over fifty girls training to be performers. The fiction is about a school called Melody Gakuen, which is located on an artificial island in Yokohama Bay. Melody Gakuen is a new school for performers which ranges from elementary school all the way up to college. The school is complete with the latest recording equipment and full-sized concert hall. Before the school officially opens, four girls are allowed to shoot a promotional video to introduce the new school. Spending the night on the island they discover a ghost. Direction is by Tsuneo Tominaga, the script is by Toshimichi Okawa, and the Animation production is by AIC.

*Kite = College student by day, vigilante by night, Sawa protects the innocent and mercilessly kills criminals in this intense Japanese anime (dubbed in English). Sawa's parents were murdered when she was young, and she was adopted by policeman Akai, who teaches Sawa to kill and assigns her to dangerous missions. Friend and fellow mercenary Oburi convinces Sawa that the two should leave Akai and stop killing, but escaping won't be easy.

*Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho (Beyond the Clouds, the Promised Place [The Place Promised in Our Early Days]) = In this animated film, Japan is under two regimes after the country's loss in World War II. Hokkaido remains under Japanese rule while America holds the rest, a bitter division that's wrenched the nation and left its citizens confused. Curious, Sayuri and her pals decide to build a vessel that would help them investigate a looming tower in Hokkaido, a plan they abandon when Sayuri falls ill. Is there a connection between her coma and the tower?

*Le Portrait de Petite Cossette = Eiri works part time in an antique shop. One afternoon, he receives a portrait of a young French girl and a collection of rainbowy goblets. When Eiri peers into the goblet, he's enchanted by a vision of a young blonde girl -- Cossette -- her life playing out for only him to see. A haunted beauty, Cossette has been waiting 250 years for someone to finally set her free. The only person who could set her free is a person who will fall in love with her and risk their life for her. Eiri soon becomes obsessed and determined to help the girl trapped in the crystal by submitting himself to the pain she puts him through. Sometimes you might wonder if Eiri is really going through these experiences, or if it is all just a schizophrenic hallucination. This anime excels in all things artistic--graphically, musically, etc. The art is very beautiful, detailed, and surreal. It makes sense that it should have good art, since the anime is about a portrait of a girl. There is a lot of blood and confusing moments. Don't get this anime if you don't like to think. This isn't for people who hate slow moving anime.

*Lupin III Movie: Dragon of Doom = The Dragon of Doom has kept its secret inside the sunken Titanic for over 80 years. But now, an international race to find the Dragon has begun -- and Goemon knows he must protect it at all costs, even from his friends. From Tokyo to Paris to the deepest fathoms of the Atlantic Ocean, join Goemon, Jigen, Fujiko and Lupin as they rush for the treasure and dodge the bad guys. But will friends turn into enemies before the hunt is over?

*(Macross) Codename Robotech = an old (?) anime by Macross ~ a guy telling a story of his past.

*(Macross') Do You Remember Love? = a movie released in 1984

*Macross II: The Movie = 1992 mecha OAV?

*(Macross) Plus = an anime movie made in 1994 ~ adults from planet Eden who are trying to forget their past as teens or something. The year is 2040. This lady named Myung (sp?) used to be the star singer in her school. Now she produces a signing robot that is popular all across the universe. But now whenver someone brings up *Myung's* singing, she gets upset. I think her old boyfriend was this guy who is kind of immature. He is reckless, impulsive, and wild. He loves to fly, and thinks of this flying machine as a toy I guess. I think Myung wants the guy back, but he isn't interested in her anymore; he has a new girlfriend who has a similar personality to his, much more similar than Myung's personality. This other guy is good friends with Myung. He ends up saving her life. He might be in love with her or something because he always tells the wild guy to stay away from Myung.

*Magic Knight Rayearth OAV = the 3 girls all go to the same school and have known eachother for some time. Umi and Fuu are moving away and Hikaru is worried that she will never see them again. However, she recalls the vow the 3 of them made beheath a cherry tree on the school grounds (according to legend inhabited by a fairy known for helping wishes come true) that they would be friends forever. Now, standing under the same tree by herself later, she dismisses the cherry-fiary legend as a stupid idea. But then, to her amazement, the cherry fairy actually appears before her eyes--it's Mokona, who leads her into Cephiro, a gigantic floating fotress materializing over Tokyo Tower. Cephiro wants to take over Earth. The 3 girls are the Magic Knights who are Earth's chosen warriors, summoned to protect the planet from invasion. Clef is much taller than in the origial version, and referred to as a priest. He appears on Earth, apparently the only Cephiro native kindly disposed toward humankind. Thanks to him, Hikaru is first to be introduced to her giant battle form: not a robot, but something living called a "spirit beast" (named "Lexus" here, as "Rayearth" turns out to be something else). Fuu and Umi get their own spirit beasts too.

*Musekinin [Irresponsible] Captain Tylor OVA Collection = The first episode was done by the original author, Yoshiyoka. All the other episodes are done by his daughter, Taria Yoshiyoka, who with others makes it more serious and realistic than it used to be. 10-episode comedy ~ Admiral Mifune assigns Tylor a secret mission. The Raalgons have developed a weapon that can penetrate a ship's shields, destroying it from the inside. The crew of the Soyokaze is sent with another ship to destroy the regular Raalgon arsenal. Tylor fouls everything up and the Soyokaze is once again in the hands of the enemy. So it's reunion time with the Raalgon Azalyn, who is on vacation.

*My Neighbor Totoro = by Viz or Ghibli?

*Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind = Princess Nausicaa and her valley of the wind live in peace with the poison forest. While other people want to kill all the poisonous insects that sometimes invade nearby towns, Nausicaa finds other ways to stop them from attacking, like talking to them. Her valley becomes under attack by another town who is after an ancient giant warrior that the valley has. They also want to burn down the forest, since it seems to cause nothing but trouble. But a wise old blind woman from the valley named Baba warns them that people have tried to burn down the forest before, and it didn't work; it's best to let things be, because the insects won't attack if their home isn't threatened. The princess of this opposing town takes Nausicaa and a few of her people as hostages with her. On the flight to wherever they're going, they get shot at by another town. Nausicaa meets a young boy her age; they fall into some quicksand and discover that underneith the poison forest is a clean area with fossilized trees. They learn that the forest exists to provide balance to the earth and keep control over the humans. Nausicca goes back to her valley to save it from the opposing town and stampeeding omes (giant insects).

*Nekojiru = Nyaata and Nyaako are cat brother and sister. The story starts when Death visits Nyaako and tries to take her away. Nyaata attempts to keep her from being taken, but Nyaako is ripped in half. Direction is by Tatsuo Sato, with a script by Tatsuo Sato and Masa'aki Yuasa. Storyboards, character designs, and animation direction are by Masa'aki Yuasa.

*Night Warriors: DarkStalkers' Revenge = four-part OAV series ~ a vampire hunter in a mythic Eastern European setting who is himself part vampire; has baroque touches and Gothic flavor.

*Ninku The Movie = ?

*Otaku no Video = I think it's a true story thing, biography/documentary, in the form of an anime (but some parts are non-anime, with interviews); ~ a guy in college and he meets up with his friends in an elevator, and then later they go to a cos-play festival thing where people are selling things. I didn't see the whole episode, so I don't know what happened after that.

*Patlabor = 1989 OAV about superdeformed mecha; there's also a TV series that aired in 1990, a second movie in 1992, and a second OAV series in 1993.

*Peacock King = Oav directed by Rintaro (a.k.a. Taro Rin)

*Perfect Blue = movie ~ a singer named Mimi who resigned to become an actress. Her very good friend is posessed or something or has multiple personalities, and with the help of a die-hard fan of Mimi when she was a singer, she stalks Mimi. There are various morally bad scenes, and after the middle of the movie you come to a point when you cannot tell what is really happening and what Mimi is dreaming. Much of the creepy dreamscapes originate from the fishtank in Mimi's room.

*Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back = a Pocket Monster movie (dunno if it was originally made in Japan or if it was just for America) about Ash, Misty, and Brock are called by a hallogram to be one of the few groups to battle Mewtwo. (I think.) So they go, and Mewtwo wins over all of everyone's pokemon. But then Mew comes and battles with Mewtwo, and it looks like a tie. Ash steps in the middle of them to stop their fighting, but in the process he gets killed. All the pokemon cry, and their tears bring him back to life. I forgot what happened at the end.

*Pokemon the Movie 2000 = movie about Ash, Misty, and Tracey (sp?). An ancient legend comes true when powerful Pokemon, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres are disturbed after centuries of harmony. As the very forces of nature come unblanace by this guy who wants to create the strongest Pokemon (or something), life on Earth depends on the unlikely teaming of the mythical Pokemon, Lugia, and a mysterious "chosen one" foretold in the legend.

*Princess Mononoke = A movie ~ nature versus progress. A young warrior Ashitaka sees a demon boar god covered in slug like things. To save his village, he slays it. But the slug things touched his arm, and now he has a deadly curse on him; it will spread throughout his body and hurt him slowly, then tear appart his soul. The wise woman in his town tells him the only thing he can do to stop it is to go to the forest god in the west. So he goes. When he gets there, he comes across these dying two men who belong to a village ruled by Lady Eboshi. Before he saw them, he saw this girl (who he later finds out is San, Princess Mononoke) with two giant wolves (one of them is a female one, Moro, the white wolf goddess). I'm not sure but it looked to me like she was trying to suck the bullet wound out the mother wolf, cuz her mouth was bloody. Ashitaka introduced himself to the "gods", but the San just told him to go away. Anyway, Ashitaka helps bring the two guys back to their village, shown the way by these little ghost-like things that turn their heads upside-down and shake them. He stays in their village for a while, discovering that Lady Eboshi was indirectly the cause of his curse; the boar god went insane because of a bullet manufactured in Irontown, the town Lady Eboshi rules over. The guys who live there tell him about Lady Eboshi wanting to cut down most of the trees in the forest, and Princess Mononoke trying to stop them. Ashitaka makes friends with a girl who lives at the village. I think her name is Toki. She's like the leader of all the girls there (except for Eboshi). The rest of the anime is basicly Ashitaka tries to help Eboshi's group and San's too, and they both think he's working for the opposite side, when all he really wants is for the forest and humans to live together in peace. At the same time, he wants to get rid of his curse. Well in the end he does get rid of it, and he lives in Eboshi's village afterwards. He promised San (his love now) that he would visit her every chance he got or something.

*Psychic Force = 1998 OAV series based on the video game by Taito; the main focus seems to be the relationship between a psychic guy and his newfound buddy, who is trying to find him, while they're both running from the Feds. Has a lot of action, yet a lot of people say it's rushed and boring.

*Ranma 1/2 OVA = It's Christmas.

*Rayearth = OVA of Magic Knights Rayearth. In this version, Fuu, Hikaru, and Umi all go to the same school. But they're graduating in a week and will soon not see eachother again. They all wished under a legendary cherry blossom tree that they would always stay together. The people of Cephiro come to their world, wanting to sacrifice it for the sake of Cephiro. There are a lot of changes in the OVA compared to the anime. The OVA has Clef and Emeraude-hime taller, Ascot is short like in the first series, Lantis sometimes has purple hair, Eagle is Emeraude-hime's brother. There is no romance in the OVA except Emeraude-hime's love for Zagato. Zagato is dead, but Emeraude-hime is living in a dream world where she thinks he's still alive. Meanwhile, her brother Eagle is trying to destroy RayEarth (Earth). Ascot, Alcyone, and Ferio are on his side. Lantis and Clef help Fuu, Hikaru, and Umi save their planet. Mokona is known as the fairy that came from the cherry blossom tree to grant their wish. Mokona gives them the power of the mashin (rune god/diety). Umi's and Fuu's mashin is the same as in the anime, but Hikaru's is Lexus.

*Royal Space Force (The Wings of Honneamise) = the most expensive anime movie ever produced at its time of release in 1987; a young astronaut named Shiro struggles to become the first man in space even as the world around him explodes into war. This anime is not only about Shiro's personal triumph over hardship but is also a succienct metaphor for the hopes and dreams of the fans-turned-pro studio Gainax, who made it this anime a reality. Some people (like Roger Ebert) think this anime was The Greatest Anime Ever Made.

*Saikano OVA: Another Love Song = shows the military perspective of the Saikano anime episodes and focuses on the relationship between Chise and Leutenant Mizuki.

*Samurai X = the OVA of Rurouni Kenshin; shows Kenshin's life before the anime episodes, when he was a young boy, how he got the scar on his face, and the woman he fell in love with. Very serious and gorry in comparison to the anime episodes.

*Shamanic Princess (OAV) = ~ realizing the power within oneself, the power to be a part of the world . . . the power to feel secure in the face of loneliness. Also about romance between the Magic Users and their Partners. A small group of supernaturally powerful individuals do battle on Earth. Using mystic energy fields to mask their secret war from the unsuspecting populace, these young, beautiful (and scantily clad) Magic Users pit spells and familiars against eachother, with the fate of a world--and their souls--hanging in the balance.

There, they meet a mysterious woman called Aya Haguro, who boards the Yamato to fulfill a destiny that was set 2000 years ago. The enemy in this story is the Dark Queen from antoher galaxy and the Metanoids, a race of being with the mentalic cellular structure.

*Slayers Gorgeous = Slayers movie ~ Lina Inverse and her friend Naga. They are eating in a village when all of a sudden the king of the village comes with his army to fight this dragon team lead by the king's daughter. The king's daughter is fighting her father cuz she wants a raise in allowence from 50 gold coins to 200 gold coins, and the king refuses to do it; so they are litterally (sp?) fighting over it. Lina scares the princess off by using one of her sorceress attacks. Naga disapears later, while Lina is talking to the king. The king tells her about why he and his daughter are fighting, and she thinks it's stupid and walks away. But he offers some gold coins, so Lina accepts. Meanwhile, the princess is telling her two henchmen what to do and stuff, and then she lets out a laugh. But her laugh fades out, and another laugh is heard -- it's Naga's. Naga tells the princess that her laugh is all wrong. The princess asks if Naga will teach her how to laugh, and also if she would join her fight her father. Naga is glad to, but with a price of some gold coins. Later, the first of the princess' hechmen is defeated. He is brought to the king's castle, tied up, and questioned. From him (one of the people who used to work for the king), Lina and the king find out that the princess hired Naga, and also another person who used to work for the king. Later, the king's group, and the princess' group fight again. The princess' dragons are afraid of Lina for some reason that they never explain really. Lina and Naga fight eachother. Naga falls down a waterfall. Then the princess comes and fights Lina. But Lina wins because the princess' armor and sword is made of flimsy (sp?) material. (I think that's right.) Later, the other and last hechmen that the princess has comes. He turns into a dragon and talks about how dragons should rule the world. Lina tells everyone to stand back so she can use her greatest attack. The princess does what Lina says, and tells her dragons to move and everything. Lina chants a poem, and summons her power onto that big dragon who wants to rule the world (his name starts with a G... something like Gazanou). The dragon blocks her attack, and forms a violet ball of light inside his mouth and is about to spit it out at Lina, one of the princess' dragon (the biggest of them) shoots fire at the G dragon. The G dragon gets angry that the other dragons are fighting for humans, and decides to destroy them too. He thrashes around the town, ruining the village. Naga wants to do her greatest attack with the Golem (which was earlier defeated by Lina), but Lina knocks her down and tells her not to. The G dragon asks what they are gonna try to do now. Lina says that she's gonna annoy him. She fires up at the G dragon's head, but the dragon dodges it and laughs. But as the fire ball went higher into the atmosphere, it turned into an icicle (sp?). Then it falls back down, and it hits the G dragon on the head. Naga throws up fire balls into the sky too, a bunch of 'em, and they all hit him and get him annoyed. The G dragon puts up a big shield and laughs that they would try such a simple spell against him. Naga tells him that it's too bad he can't put up two shields, because if he didn't notice... it was Naga who was doing all the fire balls, while Lina was reciting her poem! So Lina, behind the G dragon, fires her greatest attack at it, and kills it. But the story kinda isn't resolved cuz the father still tells his daughter that he won't give her a raise.

*Sol Bianca: The Legacy = computer animated mecha OAV?; The first episode (El Arreglo) has to do with issues of taxes, police corruption, misogyny, and homophobia. While resident tough-girl Janny leaves to buy weapons, the Sol Bianca is taken over by a psychic terrorist. It's up to Janny and a hardboiled film noir-esque tough guy named Gwen to free the ship and confront the terrorist, whose agenda lies with his realionship to his estranged brother and his fear of women in positions of power. The second episode (Lamovrex) revolves around April's relationship to Feb and Feb's disillusionment with being a pirate. *Street Fighter Alpha: The Movie = ?

*Tales of D: The Movie = Vampire Hunter D movie released in 1998, though two years late, based on the 3rd Vampire Hunter D novel, Yosatsuko [Demon Deathchase]. D is summoned by John Elbourne, the walthy, wheelchair-bound patriarch of a frontier village whose daughter has been kidnapped. Elbourne hires D to rescue his daughter Charlotte and to kill Meier Link, the young Aristos who abducted her. Should D be too late to stop Charlotte from being turned, he's ordered to kill her as well. Despite D's legendary reputation, Elbourne has also surreptitiously hired the Markus brothers (a heavy-hitting team of vampire hunters who are feared in their own right) for the same job. The markus Brothers don't like competition, so D and the Brothers wind up rattling their sabers at each other as they race across the wastelands after Meier. On his way through the mutants-only city of Barbaroy, Meier hires a team of vicious mutants to protect him and deter pursuit. Between the constant ambushes by these Barbaroid mercenaries and their running battle with D, the Markus Brothers are whittled down until only the beautiful, gun-toting Leila (the one Markus sister) remains to challenge him. Leila and D team up out of necessity, and the unlikely pair cooperate in assulting a high-teach vampire safe house and then in chasing Meier toward his destination--a forbidden Aristos (aristocrats) castle haunted by the spirit of the deceased Countess Carmilla. Although D has uncovered the true nature of Charlotte's "abduction," khe is dedicated to finishing his assignment and hounds Meier through the castle. The Countess, however, has other ideas in mind--namely resurrect herself, and she will resort to any deception necessary to acheive that goal. In the final battle, D must once again relingquish his humanity to the monster within. Once again, he must follow his path as a lone hunter.

*Tales of D: The Original Video = OAV out in 1985; directed by Toyo'o Ashida; ~ a young woman named Doris Lang who now lives with her younger brother Dan, near the town of Ransylva. Doris takes on her fathers duty of being a werewolf hunter. She is lusted after by Greco Roman, the weasely son of Ransylva's mayor, and Count Magnus Lee, a 10,000 year-old vampire who considers Ransylva part of his demesne (he surfaces every 50 to 100 years to take a human wife, and Doris is the latest in a long line of victims). Doris was bitten by Count Lee, so she reccruits D [stands for Dracula] to protect her and to get rid of the Count. In return, Doris offers him a roof over his head, 3 meals a day, and her own body. D (who has a huge, black cyborg horse) refuses partly cuz he knows he'd succumb to his bloodlust if he did, but largely because her plight moves him. Doris' friend Dr. Fearing, the resident doctor of the village of Ransylva, convinces the mayor to allow D to hunt Count Lee, citing what's happened when previous women chosen by the count were locked away for their protection. Before D can take the fight to the Count, Magnus' daughter Lamica sends the deadly Rei Ginsei and his mutants and werewolves to kill Doris. A prideful elitist, Lamica hates the thought of her father tainting the family bloodline (which can be traced all the way back to Dracula) with a human bride, but D and his demonically possessed hand cut a swath of destruction through the mutant assassins. Soon enough, D closes in on Count Lee's castle and fights his way through ever more powerful mutants, advanced antipersonnel systhems, and even a time-distortion trap. Shockingly, D must allow his vampire rage to temporarily overpower his humanity in order to dispatch his enemies, amazing the Count and Lamica with his power. (It's implied that D's strength may come from his birthright, which may be closely linked to the vampires' most ancestor himself, who is worshipped by vampires as their god and progenitor.) In the end, despite her discovery of an unpleasant truth about her own ancestry, Lamica proudly elects to stay with her father and his crumbling castle. D, on the other hand, decides to leave--though Doris invites him to stay with her, he knows he can never belong.

*Tales of Phantasia OVA = 4 episodes long; based on the video game with the same name. The OVA is pretty close to what happens in the video game, with some things added and cut, which usually happens whenever something is copied. So a soldier burns villages to get some stones to resurrect Lord Dhaos, the demon king. The stones were in the possession of Cress the warrior and Mint the healer. After Dhaos is resurrected , Cress and Mint are sent to the past to try to get rid of Dhaos with help from Klarth the summoner and Arche the half-elf mage. Dhaos is seen as evil because he destroys villages, but he only does it because their magitechnology is draining the mana tree of all its mana; Dhaos needs mana to save his planet's people. "If there is evil in this world, it lurks in the hearts of man."

*Tenchi Muyo!, Magical Projects: Pretty Sami OAV #2 = I guess that means there was a number one too?

*Time Stranger = Forty years after fighter pilot Remi Shimada saves the world, the former heroine and leader of a resistance group lies on her deathbed in a paralyzing psychological state. *Urusei Yatsura Movie (or is it an Ova?) = has to do with ten teenagers. They set this plan up to play a joke or something on this guy who I think's name is Darling. They were stuck at a hotel, and people kept getting killed. But it was all planned, so they didn't really die. Darling ended up in the hospital, but he wasn't badly injured or anything, cuz he was running around the room pinching the nurse.

*Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer = the second movie; the students at Tomobiki High are repeating the same day over and over, and those who realize it are mysteriously disappearing.

*Vampire Princess Miyu = A lovely, dark OAV that gives us a glimpse into the world of Miyu, a vampire in a little girl's form, who hunts down the monstrous Shinma with her silent servant, Larva. The story is told from the viewpoint of Himiko, a spiritual detective who encounters the vampire girl repeatedly over the course of several cases. In terms of writing and style, this is one of the best horror anime ever made. Its successes depend very little on shocks and thrills, but more on the haunting portrayal of its characters, who exist in a sort of eternal twilight on the very brink of death. The fascinating thing about Miyu, is that despite her human face and frightfully childlike whims, she's as much of a monster as the Shinma she hunts. A particular coldness seems to permeate the series, where survival is not always a good outcome and death is treated as a casual matter, heightening the implications of Miyu's unnatural existence. There's easily enough material here for an entire full-length series, but the four-episode OAV format does well in setting up the show's mysteries and revealing its tragic secrets without ever feeling rushed or compromised.

*Vandread = computer animated mecha OAV series made in 2000; directed by Takeshi Mori; has action and comedy

"It's our duty to our country to protect our virginity," as one character puts it.The rest of the main cast is rounded out by male military officers who are sexist pigs.

*Wrath of the Ninja = The year is 1580, and the unholy armies of Lord Nobunaga Oda steadily spread across Japan. Narrowly escapting the slaughter of her clan, a young ninja steals into the shadows. She is joined by Sakon and Ryoma -- renegade ninja and the possessors of the sacred sword and spear. Now, these shadow warriors must unite thier weapons and skills to fulfill The Prophesy of the Enchanted Swords, or die trying. This is the Prophesy: "The year a comet races across the sky, spilitting the heavens, from the depths of the Earth the dark god shall arise once again. Then, the dark evil lurking in the shadows shall come out of the depths of Hell and show itself in the present world. The emotions of the blade of the wind shall collect at the source of the blue light. And the three blades shall become one, vanquishing evil."

*X, The Movie = ~ the combat between the Dragons of Heaven and the Dragons of Earth over the fate of the world. The Dragons of Earth want to first destroy the ancient power shields that protect Tokyo and then lay waste to the environmentally destructive human population. The Dragons of Heaven want to protect humans, flawed as they are. Into the fray comes Kamui, whose destiny is to protect the world. The Dragons of Earth manage to turn Kamui's boyhood friend, Fuma, into a mirror image of Kamui in order to wage a climactic battle with him in the skies over Tokyo.
