L-R:  Cammy, Daddy, and Fanny
One of the hottest acts to emerge in music this year is Daddy Hanson and the Accessories.  Some attribute their enormous draw to the scientifically proven fact that people are more apt to buy a record made by a band with the word "and" in their title (Josie and the Pussycats, 2001), but many others (including this journalist) think it can only be how truly amazing their musicianship is.

When Daddy stepped out on a warm, summer's day, intent on picking up microphones for his three sons in 1995, he had no idea where his destiny would lead him.  As he entered the local Best Buy, he instantly noticed the hesitantly peeking

Chinese masterpiece, Cammy.  Microphones and sons forgotten (not to mention wife, Mommay), Daddy and Cammy immediately set off in search of a vacant, seedy motel, deep in the heart of Genieco, New Mexico.
"The moment I saw Cammy, I knew we were meant to do something together.  At first I thought it was sex, or at least some form of it, but as I entered the lobby of the motel, I knew it was something much more.  I was to take [Fanny] in as well."
The threesome went to a local bar to discuss their venture as musicians.
"Daddy had a lot to drink, but he was still fairly coherent.  Cammy and I opted for a small Sprite each so at least someone would remember the conversation.  Everything was perfect."
However, things were not so perfect on the homefront.
"I'll never forget the night Daddy came in drunk and told me to 'make room for Cammy and Fanny.'  I mean, come on.  I'm a real woman and I've been replaced in the place he loved me most by accessories?!  It's just asinine.  Not to mention the ramifications his actions have had on our sons.  One's in love with the microwave oven and has proposed to it several times over.  He even bought a $3,472.90 ring for it!  Then I have to hear him sob his precious little heart out 'cause every time it beckons his attention by beeping, all it says is 'Food is ready.'  You really have no idea what it's like," lamented former wife, Mommay.
"It's just not fair," comments Daddy's eldest son, "the food is always ready, but not the microwave.  I don't want to marry the food.  I want to marry the microwave. It can cook a family meal in minutes, but it can't love me. It can put forth tremendous amounts of energy, but none of that is 'love energy' for me."
Using the family strife as a springboard, Daddy began to write what would later become the highly acclaimed and super commercially successful album,
Dark Side of the Room
"We were really very excited about Daddy's writing," says Fanny.  "We felt it had everything in it to make it sound really wonderful.  We supported that writing like I support his gut."

Dark Side of the Room is a poignant look into the seedy underside of life, particularly so emotionally involved because it was experienced first-hand and all the thoughts and feelings are conveyed eloquently not only through the stabbing, driving lyrics, but also the electronic blips, clicks, and synchopated drum beats.  Fanny does an excellent job playing the zippers as Cammy does in filling in "flash flourishes."
"I really couldn't do it without them," Daddy comments appreciatively.  "It was such a joint effort.  I'm really glad I met these two who share the same passion as I do for making music of this sort."
