Saline Dreams
He possesses a strength not
only in manner and thought but also
in deed it is uncanny how
the eyes of this portrait
follow the movements of
thee and thine and perhaps
mine eyes have neither
seen nor witnessed the glory
of this so-said miraculous
Statehood on which your faith is
foundered, floundering we
found our persons wrecked
and wricked and racked on
the very cork we had once
stocked so much hope in
that it seemed we our
selves should break
on the self-same
rocky shoal
of horror
our good ship
had nigh but
gracefully
mirthlessly
ruthlessly
made berth
her noble soul oh
how the fly dost weep
without conviction we fly
the subtle waters of the
briny shores of sleep
no more in an ever
cascading will to
shave o stave off
that unnecessary
hunger for
it will bloat
and sink
thee more
assuredly
than our
kitchen
sink
shall
Back to cleaner places
