1992
Dr. Victoria M. Abesamis, pediatric oncologist and head of
the Turmor Clinic at East Avenue Medical Center Quezon
City, thought of forming a multi-disciplinary team to treat
children with cancer.
Carmen "Icar" Castro and Fatima O. Garcia, two
psychology graduate students from Ateneo de Manila
University, formed the volunteer group called Kythe to be
part of the multi-disciplinary team. Kythe's role was to
address the psychosocial needs of pediatric cancer patients
and their families.
1994
Kythe Inc. was duly registered with the Securities and
Exchange Commission as a non-stock, non-profit corporation.
1998
Kythe systematized care for pediatric cancer patients in
East Avenue Medical Center through its Child Life Program.
1999
Kythe expanded its Child Life Program services to pediatric
patients in the Pediatric, Surgery, Orthopedic, Opthamology
and EENT ward at East Avenue Medical Center.
Kythe shared its expertise in establishing a Child Life
Program in the pediatric ward of the Armed Forces of the
Philippines Medical Center (AFPMC) at V. Luna Quezon City.
2000
Allan Cabisaga, took his Child Life Internship at New
Children's Hospital, Westmead Australia and Fatima Garcia
took her Child Life Internship at the University of
California San Francisco (UCSF) Hospital, USA.
2001
Fatima Garcia passed the Child Life Professional
Certification Examination of the Child Life Council and is
considered one of the first Certified Child Life
Specialists in the Philippines.
