Kythe
10 years
2002 marks Kythe's 10th anniversary. The two
co-founders, Carmen "Icar" Castro and Fatima
"Girlie Garcia never thought it would last this long.
This two usually kid themselves, they've created a monster!
How did Kythe survive these years? Final answer: THE
VOLUNTEERS! Yes, the countless men and women from different
schools, professions, and walks of life who have
unselfishly shared their time and resources with the
patients and their families. Every week for the past ten
years, these volunteers have laughed and played with out
patients. At the playroom, you see volunteers sprawled on
the floor or acting like animals. They have and are willing
to ride the roller coaster five times with the kids (even
if they feel like their head has been chopped off). They
are also willing to don a zany outfit just to make the
children smile. It is not all fun though. Our volunteers
have also cried and grieved. It is not easy to be Kythe
volunteer. one must possess emotional maturity, inner
strength and be spiritually grounded to face the
possibility of death. Only those made with strong mettle
survive.
So now we pay tribute to our KYTHE VOLUNTEERS. The
"men and women for others" who form the backbone
of the foundation. Without YOU, Kythe will not be
where it is now. To all our volunteers, we salute and thank
you. May you carry the spirit of Kythe wherever you
go.
