Two years since that awful night - the crash that sent our terrified daughter hurtling through the air into a tree. Every day continues to be a struggle. The constant inner turmoil as we struggle to accept what has happened to Nicky wars with the outer truggle to carry on as though our lives have not been damaged beyond repair. We do know - better than most - that life does go on and no amount of tears will ever bring Nicolette back to us. Our task now lies in learning to live in our new reality - a l fe without our wonderful Nicky - without her laughter, without her smile, without her natural ability to make everything fun and adventurous - without everything that was her.

I keep trying to figure out how one person can destroy so much in the name of fun - why would anyone take that unnecessary chance? If you were in our shoes for just a moment you would never get behind the wheel of a car impaired - in any way. Or would y u?

I, for one, did not have the pleasure of knowing your daughter, but I will meet her some day. For the Lord will let us share memories that only we will be able to appreciate some day. She was a very beautiful girl, and I am sure that God will let memories ive on in your younger children. All the memories and all the love that everyone shows for you and your family will not be as good as your younger children knowing her themselves; but, I hope this helps your family out. Just remember she will dwell in the presence of the lord forever!!! leah

It saddens me once again to read a story of another friend and loved one killed by a drunk driver. So sad! She will be in your hearts forever. It is such a horrible tragedy for all of you. Her Friends, classmates, teachers and Family. We are all affec ed when this happens to another human being. This has to stop. It hurts too bad. Such a waste. A young beautiful girl with her whole life ahead of her. Killed because someone got behind a steering wheel after drinking.

I wanted to share a story to give an example of Nicky's sweet and fun personality. I think Nicky was around 11 years old when her uncle and I drove from Michigan to Florida (straight through). We arrived in the early afternoon. Nicky and Stephanie were anxiously waiting our arrival. As soon as we arrived, Nicky and Stephanie asked us, "So, what do you want to do?" Sleep for 8 hours was the real answer, but how could we resist such cute smiles - so we went for a bike ride. There were 2 large bikes and 2 smaller bikes. I had the shortest legs so it was obvious I would ride one of the smaller bikes, and Nicky, being the sweetheart, volunteered to ride the other small bike (yes, her legs were long at that age too!). Half way through our ride, one of the bikes got a flat tire. Again, Nicky offered to ride/push the bike all the way home. (Luckily we found someone with an air pump.) The kids took us on a very long but enjoyable bike ride. After we returned to the house, now completely exhausted, Nicky loo ed at us - and again with her sweet energetic smile said, "So, what do you want to do next?"

Nicolette and I played soccer together for about six years, not always on a team together sometimes just a pick up game with friends. In my senior year book she wrote, "I'm going to miss you. It's going to be different without you. Don't forget me!" T ree years later I was saying almost the same to her, "I'm going to miss you. It's going to be different without you. I'll never forget you!" Your sister IS everything everyone has written. Her smile still lights up my darkest days. Nicky left this world at sixteen but, experienced more life than I have yet to imagine. Your sister is loving and silly like everyone has suggested but she is a little wild, too. Every time I drive by a orange grove I know she is with me (one day I will have to tell you the tory). Every road trip that I was with your sister, she worried and talked about you two non-stop. Now she is never away from either of you. She no longer has to worry because she will always be by your sides, forever. In Nicolette's Loving Memory, Tin Altman

I used to run track with Nicolette. Although I didn't really know her that well, I can remember how she jumped and ran so gracefully. I remember everybody in the crowd hushing as she prepared to jump, then marveling at her beauty, and grace that pushed ri ht over the bar. I looked up to her, she ran great without even looking tired. I want you to know that your sister was dearly loved, and will be missed always.

I can still feel Nicolette's smile, her energy, her love for life. I can't even describe in words, my friend's smile, and the sparkle in her eyes, and the laughter in her voice. I wonder if she knew how much joy she brought. We used to have so much fun, omigod, we were so silly, and so goofy for no reason at all. Whenever we hung out we always found something to do. You know how when you were a little kid and you did things just for the hell of it, just for kicks. Since that was the reason, anything a d everything was fun. It didn't matter what it was, making people out of that spongy fungi that grows on the ground or playing with dirt. Nicky always made sure that whatever we were doing, we were having a good time. Happiness came so easily for her. till, in her last year, where we were growing up and trying to be mature or whatever, Nicolette kept it real. She still helps me to keep it real to this day. I am so thankful that I was able to know Nicolette and be best friends with her. We drifted ap rt over time but we always remained friends and became closer in the months before her death. I'm thankful for her friendship. I wish for you, Alex and Sydney to know, one day, what a beautiful soul and good woman that your sister was. Know how much she loved you, she talked about you guys all the time. Understand that she is in the best place there is and since she will always be with you, I can bet that you will enjoy your life as much as she did. I hope that your lives will be filled with the youthful happiness and contentment that Nicolette knew. I love you Nicky!

We will never forget Nicolette, and we thank God for the many memories we have of her. Our favorite one is when Nicky and Stephanie were ice skating at Grandma and Grandpa's house. She was always giggling, that's what we remember most.
