James A. Lantaff
Born: July 22, 1833 Old Hust, Huntington, England
Death: June 29, 1912 Hopkins County, Kentucky
According to his "Last Wishes"written in 1909, and his tombstone in New Beulah Cemetery, he was born on July 22, 1833, but other records indicate that he may actually have been born a year or two later.  According to his ship's passanger list james sailed from England to new oreleans in 1853, with his parents, William and Mary Ann (Bowles) Lantaff, and a younger brother and sister, William Bowles Lantaff (born apr. 24, 1837), and Mary Ann Lantaff (born in 1840). The family departed from Liverpool, England on february 21, landed in New Oreleans on april 29, and on May 9, 1853 landed on Earl, IN (now considered part of Evansville) where they were engaged in farming.

James Lantaff was married (February 1859), to Mary Ann Blanchard, the daughter of Samuel Blanchard and his wife, who were also English immigrants. James and Mary Ann became parents of four children in Indiana: John Edward Lantaff (born Oct.25, 1863) Hannah P. Lantaff (born in 1866, and married James D. McGregor in 1881) William Sam Lantaff (born Dec. 4, 1866, and married to Tabitha Jane Howton on Oct. 12, 1890) and Emery A. Lantaff (born July 1869, and married to Minnie F. Tapp on Jan. 8, 1890).

James Lantaff served in the Indiana Infantry during the Civil War (November 1864-July 6, 1865), and the returned to farming in Indiana. In 1877 he sold his farm and bought a farm in the Silent Run area of Hopkins Co. KY. He lived on this farm until his death (June 29, 1912). He and his wife are buried in New Beulah Cemetery.

The oldest child of James and mary Ann Lantaff, john edward, was married to Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" Dockery on Oct. 15, 1884. Born on Apr.15, 1866, she was the daughtr ofgeorge W. Dockery and mary Priscilla (Southard)Dockery of the Beulah-Charleston area of Hopkins County. John Edward aws engaged in farming in the Beulah area and had three sons: Ernest logan Lantaff, george James Lantaff and Edward Gothard Lantaff. John Edawrd Lantaff (died Mar. 3, 1926), and Sarah Elizabeth Lantaff (died Mar. 18, 1951) are buried in New Beulah Cemetery.

Ernest Logan Lantaff was born dec. 26, 1886. He married Maude E. Furgurson in 1912, and they were the parents of five children: Ormsby L. Lantaff, Arvan Lantaff, Edith Earle Lantaff, Connie (Lantaff) Duncan and Alton Lantaff. All are deceased except Ormsby L. (now mayor of Madisonville) and Connie Duncan, who lives in Greenville, KY.

George James Lantaff was born Sept. 10, 1889. He married Greek Furgerson, daughter of William Anderson Furgerson and Rebecca Jane (Clark) Furgerson, on Dec 28, 1911, and they were the parents of three children: Ethel Mae (Lantaff) McGuyer, James Fredrick Lantaff and Bobby George Lantaff, Ethel and James now reside in Madisonville, while Bobby lives in venus, TX.

Edward Gothard Lantaff was born Sept. 6, 1898. he was married to Clora Cornelia Brown on Mar. 13, 1916. They had one child that survived infancy, Marvin E. Lantaff, now deceaced.
