WELCOME !, I'm Nicole Doliner. Put Experience and Expertise to Work for You!.
, I am the Democratic, Liberal, and Green Party Candidate for the Office of Receiver Taxes in the town of Clarkstown.
This position requires a total commitment to public service as well as
expertise in government finances.
I have spent my entire adult life devoted to public service
and municipal financial management.
After graduating from SUNY Albany in 1983, I served as a United States Peace
Corps Volunteer in Kenya. I had a burning passion to get things done.
Not only did I teach English at a Boys Secondary School, but I also helped
make possible the development and construction of a village water
purification system. I raised the necessary funds with a grant from the
Agency for International Development.
But I did more than just fill out forms and applications. I was out there on
the construction site, pouring cement and hammering 2 by 4s along side my
Kenyan friends. I had no previous construction or engineering experience,
but I knew this was a very important step; the people needed access to clean
water. We had to stop the spread of water borne diseases.
My two years as a Peace Corps volunteer taught me the value of learning by
doing, and how rewarding it can be to jump right in when problems need
solving.
Even as I left Africa and traveled throughout Asia, I knew I wanted to
continue my work in the public sector.
Returning home to New York I took financial accounting classes at Baruch
College, and then joined the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation
as a Budget Analyst.
Once again I found myself in a situation of learning by doing. I worked hard
and loved every minute of it, and over the years was promoted up the ranks to
Budget Director where I administered a staff of 25 analysts and was
responsible for managing a budget of $190 million dollars.
Overseeing the budget for an agency of over 4000 full time employees and
2500 seasonal staff during those years at the Parks Department were tough
ones for me, as budget cuts were hard and deep. Developing ways of doing
more with less became our mantra!
I left the Parks Department for an even tougher responsibility - the birth of
my son Mark! Seeking the best life possible we moved here to Clarkstown.
But I couldn't stay out of public service for long.
When Mark was enrolled in a cooperative nursery school, I was recruited to
serve on the Board of Directors. I served fours years as Treasurer and
Fundraising Chair. In keeping with my passion for public service, I also
became a Democratic Committee person, worked on political campaigns and was
elected Corresponding Secretary of the Clarkstown Executive Committee.
Working as President of the Rockland Civic Association, we explore county-
wide issues like the proposed power plants in the Torne Valley of Ramapo and
the Tappan Zee Bridge in Orangetown as well as working to preserve Open
Space. I sit on the Open Space Committee here in Clarkstown, and am the
Treasurer for the New City Elementary School Family Resource Center. I have
just finished a two- year term on the District-wide Decision Making Team for
the Clarkstown School District.
I believe I would be an asset to the Democratic ticket. I have the
professional and civic experience to help bring this party to victory in
November. I know I will assume the position of Receiver of Taxes with the
enthusiasm, dedication, and expertise required to serve the people of
Clarkstown.
The Democrats are the B team and if you're upset about that, let me tell you
that Row B means we are BETTER, BRIGHTER, AND WE MEAN BUSINESS. I want to be
part of the team that goes all the way!
