The baptism of Jesus did not represent the cleansing of sin because Jesus was with sin. Instead it was to indentify with Jesus with the people He had come to save. It was a signal to the world that He was different, that He was God's own Son, in whom He was pleased with. God the Father, was showing to us that God the Son, was doing precisely what was planned. The symblolism of the dove represents the Holy Spirit working also.
This passages shows the interconnection of the Trinity .
The thing that is so amazing is the God the Father could have taken the opportunity to talk to the crowd and show His glory. Yet, He choose to encourage Jesus to continue down the hard road that laid ahead of Him.
If you listen I am sure God is encouraging you the same way today.
