| It was the Feast of Unleavened Bread during Passover and the disciples asked Jesus how they should prepare. Jesus said to them, "Go into the city and you will see a man carrying a water jar. Follow him to the house he enters. Tell the owner, "The Teacher asks, Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples? He will show you a fully furnished, upstairs room where everything is in order. That is the place you are to get ready for us." The disciples went into the city and did as Jesus told them. As the sun set; the twelve arrived with Jesus. They were seated at the table and Jesus said, "I give you my word, one of you is about to betray me, yes, one who is eating with me." They began to discuss who among them it could be, each denying it was themselves. "It is one of the twelve-a man who dips into the dish with me. The Son of Man is going the way the Scripture tells of him. Still, accursed be him whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It were better for him had he never been born." During the meal, he took the bread, blessed and broke it saying, "This is my body, broken for you. Take it and eat it." He then took a cup, gave thanks and passed it to them. "Take this, this is my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant, to be poured out on behalf of many. I assure you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it in the reign of God." |
