| WEB NAVIGATION "Nifty" people: - use the BACK button to go back a step and the FORWARD button to go forward a step - press the STOP and REFRESH/RELOAD buttons when a page is taking too long to load - are PATIENT! and check to see if their browser is still "thinking" by checking the logo in the top right hand corner of the screen (if it is moving, the browser is thinking) - find LINKS by slowly moving their mouse around the page until the pointer turns into a little hand - follow links by clicking on them ("Nifty" people know that links can be text, graphics, or pictures) REFERENCING INFORMATION "Nifty" People: - always CITE information that they get from another person's/company's page (especially pictures and direct quotes) - know that failing to do this is PLAGARISM, which is claiming someone else's work as your own. Plagarism is a crime! - always include the date with the full web address when referencing information because the web is always changing - always include the name of the author of the page in their reference SECURITY "Nifty" People: - NEVER give out any personal information about themselves or others on the Internet - avoid inappropriate links and sites - do not download information or programs on public or school computers without permission (they know that to do so could introduce a VIRUS to the system) NIFTY PEOPLE USE THE INTERNET EFFECTIVELY & RESPONSIBLY! |
