previous day's entry Monday 15th July 2002 next day's entry
Hi
Getting really excited tonight, as we have just finished work and we are off to Thailand for three weeks in the morning - yeah!!!! Three weeks of relaxation and no Nova lessons!!!!
We are meeting James' parents in Bangkok and spending 3 days in Bangkok and 10 days in Phuket with them, and then going on to Koh Phi Phi after they leave for about 6 days. Everyone at work is jealous!
I can promise that this site will be updated more regularly from now on too, I had a lot of photos to upload and a lot of extra shifts to work recently!
Couldn't find a "rainy" symbol bad enough for today's downpour, but it has also been very sunny most of the time, and not too hunid the last couple of days (unless we are just getting used to it and not noticing anymore!) We are slightly worried about our flight being cancelled, as there is a typhoon due to hit Kyoto sometime soon, but I don't really think it will cause us any problems. Several people around Japan were killed by a typhoon last week, but nothing has hit Osaka yet except for collossal thunderstorms and torrential rain. It is still a weird feeling to have hot rain! The rainy season still doesn't seem a bad as the one three years ago in Fukuoka though.
Last week we went to a barbeque at Rebecca's house. She has a flat roof next to her balcony, where she sunbathes and keeps a paddling pool, so over we climbed and cooked ourselves some steak, homemade burgers, chicken, etc. And we had lots of delicious salad - mmm! At night we set off a load of fireworks - which must have given the commuting salarymen on the nearby railway line something different to look at!! Firewqrks are on sale everywhere at the moment for the summer festivals. We even got some plastic glasses that made all the lights and fireworks look heart-shaped!
I booked my tickets today to go and see Fiona in Tokushima for the Awa Odori dance festival in August - she has signed me up to join in the dancing!
Meanwhile, I will just look forward to my holiday....... mmmmmmmmm!!!!!!! We recently joined the library in Osaka which has lots of English books, so I have stocked up on Rosamund Pilcher, Terry Pratchett, Nicholas Sparks and Agatha Christie to take with me for some beach reading.
Hope you are all enjoying life back in rainy Igirisu!!!
Nic.
