Answers to the Inca questions.  How many did you get right?
1. It began about in the year 1438 and ended in the year 1532.

2. It ended when the Spanish arrived.  Francisco Pizzaro and his men easily took over the Inca Empire by defeating the Incas leaders.

3. They lived along the western edge of South Anerica.

4. The two most important Inca cities are Machu Picchu and Cuzco.

5. They had two meals.  For breakfast, they ate cereal or soup.  The dinner was also soup made from potatoes, corn, quinoa, chili peppers, onions or squash.  They rarely ate meat, but when they ate some it was llama or guinea pig.

6. Their gardens were very sophisticated.  They constructed terraces, or steps on the mountainside to create flat places on which they grew plants.  Higher up, they grew potatoes and other crops that could stand colder temperature.  In the lowest parts were the fruit and more fragile crops.  They also made irrigation systems to water their gardens.

7. The quipu was used to count.  It was made of strings of different colors and knots.  It was used to count the population, to keep track on what they produced and to maintain records of supplies kept in the govenment storehouse.

8. The llama was the most important animal for the Incas.  It was used for transportation, for clothing and for food.

9. Each city had a central plaza..  The center of each city included temples, a palace for the visiting Incas and houses for the noblest.

10. It was based on agricultural gods.  The most important one was Viracocha, the creator.  Other gods were the gods of the sun, moon, stars,thunder, earth and sea.
