Foreign War: Isn't war always foreign to somebody? ---------------------------------------------- Either we're fighting on their soil, or they're battling on ours. I believe that it is an attempt on the part of those in power to inspire nationalistic fervor into the minds of the individuals which are under their control. Never underestimate, even with an educated populace, the ways that the elite power mongers will be able to get inside your head and subtly convince you that what they believe is true is the truth and that the truth that you believe is simply irrelevant or inconsequential. If you can imply that the home team has a better right to be victorious than the team that is opposing you, and if you can convince your populace of this belief, then of course you will have won popular support for the war. Winning a war depends not only on the degree of weapons and supplies that each side can amass to its potential, but also on how greatly the people believe in its leader or commander. A foolish leader or cruel despot might last long enough to win a few victories (if the army is fully under the leader's control, and fear is used to its best advantage) ... but in the long run, the populace will cry out against such tyranny, and the leadership won't last long.
