Lizzy walked into the apartment, closing the door softly behind her. It was 6AM and she didn't want to wake Amanda. Softly she crept into the living room and was surprised to see her sitting on the couch. She looked up at her and then down to the floor again. Amanda could read her like an open book. "You wanna talk about it?" she asked. Lizzy shook her head, tears filling her eyes. Amanda patted the couch. "Come sit down." Lizzy walked over almost ashamed to look up at her.

Amanda had been her best friend for 3 years now. She had warned her about him, but last night, it had just seemed right. That is until this morning. Remembering the way he looked as she left, she put her head down sobbing. Amanda put her arm around her, rubbing her back. "It's okay Lizzy. I've been there," she whispered, comforting her. She knew right now all Lizzy needed was someone to be there.

(I ain't even gonna ask you
I can read you like a book
Girl if I ever saw one
That's an I can't believe I did that look.
You look like something that the cat drug in
So I won't kick you while your down
Just let me tell you friend to friend
'bout a block I've been around)

After 15 minutes of solid sobbing, Lizzy dried her eyes and looked up at Amanda sighing. "You went with Nick didn't you?" she asked, already knowing the answer.

Lizzy shook her head. "Amanda, I can't believe I let this happen."

Amanda looked at her sympathetically. "Liz you and Brent broke up a few weeks ago. You were lonely."

Lizzy shook her head. "I still can't believe I let this happen," she said under her breath. "How could I be so stupid?' she asked herself.

Amanda sighed. "Your not stupid Liz, I knew it last night. I watched you two dancing. It was there," she said, folding her hands in her lap.

Lizzy looked at her shocked. "Amanda you're my best friend. Why the hell didn't you stop me?" she shouted.

Amanda grabbed her hand, pulling her back onto the sofa.  "You wouldn't have listened Lizzy. You were in your own little word," she said watching her face as it registered.

"You're right," Lizzy answered, crumbling back onto the couch.

(There's a big difference between lonely
And lonely for way too long and
I knew when he made his move you weren't
Feeling all that strong so I bit my tongue
Cause I saw it coming
As you danced so close to him
It's two steps forward and
Three steps back and
A heart is on the mend)

"I'm such a whore Manda," Lizzy said through her tears.

Amanda touched her shoulder and made Lizzy face her.
"That's bullshit and you know it. You needed to be with someone, he was there. You're not a whore," she said again, looking her in the eyes. "It happened, you can't change it, as much as it hurts. You gotta let it go," she said, taking a deep breath.

(You feel in a moment of weakness
Now you just gotta pull yourself back up.
dry your mornin' after tears
cause what's done is done)

Lizzy shook her head sobbing. "Manda, I care about him so much," she said in a soft whisper.

Amanda looked at her shocked.  "Liz, you knew that it couldn't last more than one night. You know Nick," she said not believing this. Lizzy covered her mouth with her hand for fear that she would scream if she didn't. "You're my best friend Lizzy and I love you, you know that but this is Nick were talking about. You knew better to do this if you had feelings for him," she said, her sentence falling off watching Lizzy's reaction.

"Damn it Manda I know that. I never thought I would let it get this far. I don't know what to do," she said trying to clear her mind of thoughts of him. She couldn't stop seeing his eyes in her mind.

"I don't know what to tell you." Amanda admitted.

Lizzy sighed. "I know I slept with him, it can't go anywhere, he'll probably never call me again."

Amanda put her arms around her. "I'm here for ya Liz. Let's go get some sleep. Put this all behind us."

(Did you really think last night would last forever?
Did you really think that guy hung the moon?
Right now you hate yourself cause you knew better
But there's no use crying over spilled perfume.)

Lizzy shook her head and sat back down on the couch.
"I just need to be alone," she said, pulling her knees up to her chest and trying her best to fight the tears once again welling in her eyes.

Amanda nodded.  "Okay but if you need me, you know where I am right?" she questioned, not sure that Lizzy really wanted the silence that was sure to fill the room when she left. She'd known Nick forever and knew he wouldn't be calling. Lizzy said nothing, just nodded.

Taking that as her cue to leave, Manda left the room and headed to bed. Lizzy sat there for what seemed like forever going over the night in her mind. How could she have slipped this far, let herself go down this hard. She ran a hand through her hair and walked to the window, the morning light was drifting in and as she watched the sun come up over the horizon, fresh tears spilled down her face. Amanda had been right, he wouldn't call and things would never be the same between them, but  it was done. Nothing could change it and she would have to deal with it in her own way.

Feeling tired suddenly, she made her way to the bedroom . She closed the door and plopped down on the bed. The flashing light on her answering machine caught her eye. Leaning over, she pushed play and prepared herself for a message from her mother telling her to call. Instead she received the biggest shock of her life.

"Lizzy its Nick. I woke up to find you gone. Give me a call later today, we need to talk and well, I want to see you tonight. Take care and Liz, I meant everything I said tonight. Bye."
