Response to 2002 Sam & Jack Christmas challenge. DISCLAIMER: (sung to the tune of Jingle Bells) Jonas, Sam, O'Neill and Teal'c don't belong to me, they belong to MGM, Gekko and DSP; I'm really broke, so please don't sue, I'm only having fun, I'm just letting them out to play, I'll return them when I'm done! AUTHOR'S NOTES: This story is short, 'cause I haven't written anything in a while, and to be honest I'm not sure I even remember how. *g* So let me know how I went, ok? *** "What do you mean that's not allowed?!!" Jonas gestured plaintively at the long line for the department store santa. "Look, all these people are going to speak to him, why can't I?" Sam smothered a grin. "Those are children, Jonas." He raised an eyebrow. "So? It's not like I expect him to give me anything, I just want to ask him a few questions." Jack sighed exasperatedly. "Jonas, you do realise that Santa isn't real, right? He's just..." He trailed off as the heads of a dozen small children snapped around to stare at him, shock evident on their faces. "...Mommy, that man just said that Santa isn't real..." "...Hey Mr! Santa is so real! Right Dad?" "...Santa isn't real? But... but..." "...Is that true? Daddy? Is Santa real?" One girl started to cry. Parents everywhere were staring at the Colonel with what looked to be murderous intent. He gulped. "What I meant was... er..." He trailed off as Carter dragged him away by the elbow. "Oops." *** "Carter, you're a scientist, tell me this: why the hell can't they make a trolley that steers properly...?" Jack grumbled, following his team through the store as they grabbed food from the shelves. Doing a quick inventory of the items in the basket, he raised his eyebrows. "How much food are you guys expecting to eat?!" He watched as Teal'c threw two large fruitcakes into the trolley. "This is just dinner. You know, kind of a last minute thing? Hell, I was just gonna order pizza..." "I believe we need decorations, O'Neill," Teal'c intoned, ignoring his outburst. "Decorations?! Teal'c, I don't even have a tree!" Jonas looked disappointed, and Carter raised her eyebrows imploringly. He sighed, giving in to the inevitable. "...but if you want to turn my living room into a christmas shrine, hey, go right ahead. It's not like I have to live there or anything..." He grimaced. "Just, please, no tinsel alright? That damn stuff gets everywhere." Sam grinned, and he couldn't help but grin back as Jonas took off down the aisle to find the decorations. Jack shook his head. "Who's idea was is it to do this thing at my place anyway?" Teal'c raised a characteristic eyebrow. "I believe it was yours, O'Neill." "I said *dinner* Teal'c, not banquet... and who's gonna cook all this stuff, anyway?!" *** Jack stopped walking abruptly, turning to his 2IC. "Carter, take this thing for a sec, will ya?" She walked over to grasp the trolley. "I just need to go get--" He was interrupted by the store's speakers crackling to life from somewhere above him. "Attention Shoppers," said a cheerfully excited female voice, "we have two new winners of our Christmas Couples promotion! Could the couple standing under the mistletoe in aisle 4 please stay where they are?" Slowly, their eyes moved to focus above their heads, on the small sprig of green mistletoe hanging there. "Carter... is this... aisle 4...by any chance?" Jack asked brokenly. She nodded, her eyes widening. "I think it might be, Sir." "Congratulations!" Said a jovial looking man from behind them, "you're our fifth winners! All you have to do is kiss under the mistletoe and you'll have everything in that there trolley paid for by the store!" The man looked at the pair as though expecting them to start jumping up and down with excitement. Instead, they surveyed the crowd gathering around them and then turned slowly towards each other. Losing some of his good cheer, the store worker looked at them expectantly. "Well...?" "Er..." Jack stepped forward, grasping her hesitantly by the waist. He leaned forward, stopped to gauge her reaction, then brushed her lips briefly with his. They parted, though she still stood within his loose embrace, and their eyes locked once more. The store man looked confused for a moment, but soon recovered his cheerful stance. "Well, great, just take your items up to the..." But something had snapped. The man trailed off as he watched his two customers collide as though they'd been pushed by some unseen force. Their lips met again and again, finally melting into one long, luscious kiss that did *not* look like it should be interrupted. The store employee coughed embarrassedly. "Right... well... er... whenever you're ready." They ignored him, and he shrugged and walked away. The crowd slowly started to disperse around the kissing officers, leaving only their two teammates staring at them in amused astonishment. Jonas looked to Teal'c. "We'll just... finish the shopping then, shall we?" He held up the 25 balls of tinsel he'd been grasping. "Think this will be enough?" *** End. Happy Holidays, everyone! And by the way, Feedback makes the best Christmas gift... ;) *** |
