First there was "NIGHT of the LIVING DEAD" then "DAWN of the DEAD" and now the darkest day of horror the world has ever known

Original script was slashed in content after numerous budget cuts.

John Amplas plays the part of Fisher, Amplas was also the casting director for Dawn and played Martin in the Romero film of the same name.

It was on this film that Gregg Nicotero (who also played a small part in the film as a soldier) learnt the tricks of the F/X trade from Tom Savini. Nicotero is now a member of the big F/X group KNB (Kurtzman, Nicotero and Berger) Effects.

Romero returned to the city of Monroeville (where Dawn was shot) to shoot all the elevator scenes in this movie.

George A. Romero cameos as a zombie pushing a cart in the foreground during the final zombie feast, seen from the waist down and identified by his trademark plaid scarf wrapped around his waist.

Real pig intestines were used for the scene where Rhodes gets ripped apart in the hallway. Unfortunately, someone had left the guts out of the freezer over the weekend, and after the scene was shot the cast and crew ran away gagging.
