The Dead Next Door (1988)

The living dead are walking the earth! The living are dying and coming back to life to kill and kill and kill! So the government sets up a Zombie Squad to deal with the epidemic and wipe it out. Among others, Raimi, Mercer and Kuller head off to Ohio to attempt to discover a cure to the disease that spreads across America as they speak. However, they soon find a cult of zombie lovers, no - they don't do THAT!, anyway, these zombie loving cult people want to preserve this new species to let the world be reborn as they believe it is God's will. However, everything goes horribly wrong and one of the team is infected with the zombie virus, now, they must all work hard and quick to find a cure, but to also avoid the rampaging cult that's on their heels. Financed by Sam Raimi himself from the profit of Evil Dead 2, this is indie zombie filmmaking at it's best.
